PRIMARY FUNCTION :
To perform all responsibilities in order to ensure that the needs of students receiving special education services are being met in compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Establish and maintain audit files to current status, and protect the confidentiality of all Special Education records.
- Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings, manifestation, FBA / BSP, revision meetings, and transitions from outside placements, and any other necessary meetings.
- Work in partnership with case managers and school staff to coordinate meetings and provision of services.
- Foster family engagement in the IEP process and provide support to families with questions / concerns about special education eligibility and services.
- Collaborate with psychologist to review new referrals and triennial evaluations, permission to evaluate, and meeting schedules.
- Coordinate related services for enrolled students with Special Education instructional program (i.e. speech / language, counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, special transportation).
- Communicate concerns about the program to building and district administrators.
- Assist with monitoring / compliance of Special Education placements and accommodations in schools through active communication with test coordinators, and other school / district staff.
- Field and handle telephone calls, mail, and memorandums in the building(s) regarding the Special Education programs.
- Attend monthly ED meetings and share information at the school sites.
- Disseminate copies of Special Education forms to cumulative folders, parents, District Special Services Office, staff members and administration as appropriate, and recommend changes to services and delivery.
- Prepare data documentation for audit files, September 30th and December 1st counts, and June exit reports. Maintain E-school updates and DESSA information.
- Monitor transfer of Special Education students into and from the building, including alternative settings. Communicate with ED at sending school when students transfer into the school.
Ensure timely transfer of all records.
- Develop and maintain an awareness of community services which may help the enrolled and referred students (tutoring, community center activities, and counseling services, parenting groups, input to school newsletters) and consult with parents upon request.
- Plan and provide Professional Development on IEP Plus, IEP development and monitoring student progress.
Qualifications :
Must meet teacher certification requirements for Special Education
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Special Education
Experience as an Educational Diagnostician or Case Manager highly preferred
