I. JOB OVERVIEW Job Description Summary : Established in 1865, The George Washington University Law School is the oldest law school in Washington, DC.

The school is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools.

The law school is located on the GW campus in the downtown neighborhood familiarly known as Foggy Bottom.

The Associate Program Director for Bar Support, plays a critical role in the law school ecosystem that works to enhance career and professional development and optimize student employment outcomes.

The Associate Program Director for Bar Support will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive programs to ensure the success of GW Law students as they prepare for the bar exam.

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Associate Program Director for Bar Support will provide strategic leadership for the law school to incorporate data-based solutions to ensure bar exam success.

In conjunction with the Assistant Associate Program Director for Bar Exam Preparation of Bar Support, the Associate Program Director for Bar Support will provide guidance to support students through their bar exam journey, which includes bar selection, application and preparation.

The incumbent will report to the Associate Professor of Clinical Law.

Responsibilities include :

Program Development :

Conceptualize and execute a comprehensive bar passage strategy customized to meet the specific needs of law students.

Supervise the Assistant Director for Bar Support.

Craft and deliver workshops, seminars, and training modules encompassing various facets of bar exam readiness, including review of substantive law topics, exam-taking tactics, and stress management methodologies.

Collaborate with the NCBE, various bar preparation companies and others to ensure the law school can seamlessly integrate bar exam readiness into the law school curriculum.

Deliver faculty support through informative presentations and workshops on bar exam topics and the integration of bar skills into core coursework.

Engage in teaching or co-teaching workshops and courses to bolster academic and bar exam support endeavors.

Individualized Support :

Collaborate with Career Services Department to track each student’s bar examination plans during 3L year

Offer tailored guidance and assistance to students throughout their bar exam preparation journey based on tracking data such as selection of courses, academic support, appropriate jurisdiction, timing, enrollment in preparation courses.

Conduct personalized counseling sessions to evaluate students’ strengths and areas for improvement, devise customized study plans, and address any obstacles or concerns they encounter.

Provide access to resources and referrals for supplementary support services, including tutoring, study circles, or mental health counseling, where necessary.

Provide support to recent graduates to promote completion of bar exam preparation courses, or address barriers interfering with bar preparation efforts.

Resource Coordination :

Coordinate the procurement of study materials, practice tests, and other essential resources crucial for effective bar exam preparation.

Manage an updated repository of bar review materials, online tools, and study aids accessible to students.

Collaborate with external bar review course providers to facilitate discounted access and guide students in navigating their bar review choices.

Data Analysis and Reporting :

Gather and analyze data pertaining to bar passage rates, student performance, and the efficacy of program interventions.

React to and disseminate data to track GW Law student and graduate performance bar passage outcomes relative to national and state data

Generate reports and presentations delineating key insights, trends, and recommendations to enhance bar passage support endeavors.

Utilize data-driven insights to continuously assess and refine the efficacy of bar preparation programs and interventions.

In conjunction with other student-facing offices, spearhead initiatives related to data collection and assessment.

In conjunction with the Career Center, compile, track, and analyze student and graduate data on bar passage, and maintain historical bar passage records for institutional reporting and analysis.

Analyzes JD student data to identify risk factors for bar passage and extends supplemental support to students starting in their first year.

Remain abreast of rankings methodology and make strategic recommendations to law school leadership to maximize accuracy of reported information

Student Outreach and Engagement :

Organize informational sessions, orientations, and outreach activities to heighten awareness of bar exam prerequisites and available support resources.

Cultivate a supportive and collaborative community among bar-bound law students by facilitating peer mentoring schemes, study circles, and discussion platforms.

Act as a dependable resource and point of contact for students seeking guidance and information on bar exam readiness and licensure requisites

The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications :

Qualified candidates will hold a terminal degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses / Certifications / Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications : Preferred Qualifications :

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school preferred; admission to a state bar preferred.
  • Prior experience in higher education / teaching is highly desired, with preference given to those with prior academic support experience in a law school setting or with bar preparation programs
  • Knowledge of learning and teaching strategies for law students
  • Demonstrated ability to envision, identify, develop, and implement bar success support programs.
  • Strong counseling / advising or tutoring skills and professionalism with a student service focus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Extremely organized, with demonstrated good judgment and outstanding communication skills.
  • Excellent writing skills and speaking, creative programming and presentation skills, and ability to assess results and impact.

Hiring Range $120,862.67 - $169,137.25 GW Staff Approach to Pay
