Hurd Construction Management is a Jacksonville, Florida based construction advisor and general contracting firm specializing in commercial buildouts and renovations, new construction and development where delivering a strong and consistent brand experience is crucial.
Projects primarily include retail, restaurant, office and other commercial spaces throughout the entire state of Florida.
Hurd also focuses on providing systematic construction program management streamlining and strengthening large scale, multi-site initiatives.
What does the role pay?
This is a full-time northeast Florida based role with a pay range of $81,000 to $102,000 total compensation package including annual bonus at plan.
Base salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Travel
- 65% of time involves performing internal planning, coordination, and administrative functions.
- 35% of time involves travel throughout Florida supporting field project teams. Must also be willing to travel overnight from time to time.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Hurd Vice President (VP), the Construction Operations Manager is responsible for management and supervision of the day-to-day operations of construction projects (General Contracting).
The Construction Operations Manager will be managing field superintendents and their field professionals, role modelling a safety culture, ensuring quality and production, supporting on-the-job training, and nurturing solid customer relationships.
The Construction Operations Manager will collaborate with the VP, and broadly, with subcontractors and other operations stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with VP on the start-to-finish cycle of new and existing projects.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of superintendents to facilitate and expedite the project schedule.
- Participate in project walk through's as needed.
- Partner with project managers on job site work schedules and production goals.
- Perform quality control on job sites.
- Convene superintendents and subcontractors on a regular meeting cadence.
- Collaborate with the superintendents and senior leadership on the training and coaching of field workforce.
- Monitor compliance with company / project safety requirements and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
- Assess and assign field workforce within the various geographic markets.
- Collaborate and enact plans to improve production, efficiencies and reduce expenses. (ie. attend project kick-off meetings with superintendents and subcontractors).
- Work closely with senior leadership to ensure talent needs are met.
- Ensure all project and job costing documentation is submitted timely throughout the work week. This includes time keeping, daily reports, job safety analyses (JSA's), material tracking, etc.
- Monitor the scheduling of all projects.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to address discipline and employee relations concerns.
- Ensure new hire team assimilation and on-the-job success factors (ie. PPE, dress code, safety awareness, quality standards).
- Implement the 30-60-90-day Roadmap to Success process for new hires. Monitor and report progress to internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Support the company's performance management program outlining expectations, goals, and career progress.
- Identify and provide learning opportunities for professional growth of team members.
Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of construction industry practices, materials, methods and tools involved in construction.
- Self-directed field manager with the ability to manage multiple construction sites for long periods of time and adapt to change.
- Knowledge of high standards resulting in good work quality and effective production rates.
- Ability to lead, motivate, direct and develop people as they work, identifying the strengths of each person and placing her / him in a position to perform at her / his best.
- The skill to provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring job site performance.
- The ability to work collaboratively with others maintaining a positive working relationship with subcontractors, vendors and internal stakeholders.
- The ability to manage conflict and problem-solve complex issues.
- An aptitude focused on mentoring new superintendents as well as collaborating on the development of on-the-job training materials and instructional aids.
- Possess a professional, positive image, and strong customer-service mindset.
- Have proven experience working in a computerized construction management system.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience and Other Requirements
- 5+ years supervisory commercial construction experience.
- Previous experience in the field and in labor management.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Commitment to continued professional growth and development.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
- Travel will be required and often overnight.
