JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for providing responsive care, effective teaching, and an organized learning environment that promotes healthy development and children’s school readiness skill growth aligned with Head Start Program* and state standards.
Head Start is a Federal program that promotes the school readiness of children from birth to age five from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education / Child Development from an accredited institution
- Bachelor’s degree with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education / Child Development from an accredited institution with experience teaching preschool age children
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with experience teaching preschool age children and Condition of Employment to complete coursework within three years;
progress of at least two courses per year is required.
In addition, new staff members hired after the VPK program begins must complete following training within 2 months :
- Standards for Four Year Olds
- Most have Emergent Literacy for VPK Instructors
- How to Administer the VPK Assessment
- Language and Vocabulary in the VPK Classroom
- Integrating the Standards : Phonological Awareness
- VPK Assessment Instructional Implications
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
Applicants must have a valid Florida teaching certificate or current Statement of Eligibility issued by FLDOE in Early Childhood Education, Prekindergarten / Primary, or Preschool Education.
Recent college graduates may apply without having either document but will be required to apply for initial certification prior to being offered a position.
Satisfactory completion of First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course for infants and toddlers
OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
- Health Exam : Requires an initial health examination upon offer
- TBD : Screening for tuberculosis to assure no significant risk to the health and safety of others
Current and former parents or guardians of children served by the Head Start program will receive preference for employment in Head Start vacancies for which they apply.
