Job Description

The Physician here at ELFHCC will provide high-quality medical care by examining patients, diagnosing illnesses, and administering treatment.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of general medicine and be able to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best patient outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
  • Current PA license
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a relevant specialty.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience post-residency preferred.
  • Board Certified for Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or OB-GYN
  • Interest in urban / inner-city medicine
  • Bi-lingual strongly preferred

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides primary health care and / or other specialty-related services, as determined to patients in the medical office, nursing homes, and patient homes.
  • Conduct thorough examinations, review medical histories, and order appropriate diagnostic tests to diagnose and treat medical conditions.
  • Follow acute care patients admitted to UPMC Shadyside, Magee Women's Hospital of UPMC, and / or other hospitals, contingent upon credentialing, and scope of service, according to assignment.
  • Build relationships with patients which encourages healthy lifestyles, health maintenance, and prevention.
  • Supervise the care provided by patients in ELFHCC offices by PNP's and PAC's, as well as triage functions of the office nurses.
  • Share in taking calls in the evening and on weekends.
  • Maintain medical records which support a team approach to care.
  • Submit billing information to billing staff on time (48-hour closure of medical records)
  • Submit necessary correspondence promptly.
  • Complete necessary forms for patients, such as insurance applications, disability determinations, and public assistance forms.
  • Record medical information following standard medical practices and in compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Precept chart notes of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses.
  • Review daily patient labs when assigned.
  • Check and record results of the previous day's cultures and follow up with appropriate measures
  • Participate as an active member of one or more of the following medical staff : UPMC Shadyside or Magee Women's Hospital of UPMC.
  • Perform clinical research only upon approval of the Medical Director
  • Ensure all practices are following local, state, and federal regulations, as well as hospital policies and ethical standards.
  • Participate in all required Continuing Medical Education as required to maintain Board Certification.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives and other administrative meetings as requested by the Medical Director and / or CEO.
  • Participate in regular in-service education and / or other clinical training as may be deemed necessary by the Medical Director.
  • Participate in the development of clinical protocols at the request of the Medical Director and ensure compliance with all such clinical protocols developed by the ELFHCC.
  • Complete all required monthly training modules (OSHA, HIPPA, OIG - Eagle Associates online training) by the last day of each month, as well as all other mandatory staff training.
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor / manager.

CRITICAL SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, strong diagnostic skills, excellent patient communication, and empathy.
  • Occasional weekends and evening work may be required. Home care visits, nursing homes, hospital rounds, and night-call physician coverage may also be required to fulfill the assigned work schedule.
  • Exceptional clinical skills; interpersonal skills; basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate, professionally, and effectively, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work in a team under the medical director.
  • Flexibility in schedule and support physicians as his / her location responsibilities may change throughout the day.
  • Must have a passion for working with the uninsured, underinsured, and underserved.
  • Interdisciplinary treatment team approach; community-oriented primary care.

Physical Demands : Work is performed in a fast-paced office and community setting, requiring local travel. Physical demands include prolonged sitting / standing and phone use.

Lifting and carrying PR equipment and supplies (5-10 lbs.) may be required.

Compensation : Salary commensurate with education and experience.
