Description

Job Responsibilities

Support the daily health of Penn’s network infrastructure and equipment.

Collaborates with other ISC teams to resolve network issues involving hardware and software from multiple vendors.

Manage assigned support tickets, including problem resolution, escalation, status reporting, and customer updates.

Configure network equipment in accordance with customers or management needs, utilizing scripting skills and automation tools as appropriate.

Provide precise timely documentation of installations and configurations. Communicate regularly with clients and ensure customer satisfaction throughout service transaction.

Provide recommendations to leadership for established procedures and SLAs

Maintain data accuracy in a variety of network infrastructure databases, including inventory and DNS systems.

Facilitates IP address provisioning, reclamation, and equipment validation following closet refresh operations.

Leverage scripting skills to implement process efficiencies and automation where appropriate.

Supports infrastructure and services for special campus events during or after regular working hours.

Will be required to carry a communications device during off-hours to participate in an on-call rotation. This includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Occasionally walk around campus, lift / carry equipment, and sometimes work in confined spaces (network closets).

Qualifications

Bachelor in Computer Science, and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

2 to 3 years of experience supporting a large enterprise network.

Strong understanding of networking concepts, including OSI and security models, and networking protocols including Ethernet, TCP / IP, and SNMP.

Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting network routers and Ethernet switches in an enterprise environment.

Experience with IT ticketing systems required.

Excellent verbal & written communications skills. Ability to explain technical issues and status to non-technical customers.

Ability to document technical issues and resolutions for other technical teams.

Strong collaboration skills and ability to work under minimal supervision within context of their job responsibilities required.

Vendor management experience preferred, including effective use of the RMA process.

Knowledge of network automation experience using Ansible preferred.

Scripting experience (Python or similar) preferred.

Knowledge of firewalls and VPN services (Fortinet, Palo Alto) is a plus.

Network certifications preferred.
