The Structural Engineering Director (SED) is a seasoned and licensed Engineer with a wealth of experience in structural engineering, responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to our commercial projects team.

The SED plays a pivotal role in managing a team of engineering professionals, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

This position requires a strong commitment to excellence, technical expertise, and effective communication skills to successfully shepherd projects from conception to completion.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians, overseeing their work on a variety of Commercial, Civic and Native American projects.
  • Collaborate with internal project leaders, develop project schedules and assignments to team members, ensuring efficient utilization of resources to meet project deadlines.
  • Monitor team metrics, in consideration of project scope, schedules and budget, providing guidance and support as needed to optimize performance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert within the team and the organization, offering technical guidance and support on complex engineering scenarios.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers to ensure alignment of engineering production work with client expectations and project goals.
  • Implement and improve standards, procedures, and processes related to production to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Conduct employee evaluations and provide feedback to facilitate professional growth and development within the team.
  • Communicate regularly with the team members around performance, successes, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Motivate and empower team members to deliver on commitments and goals, providing support to overcome challenges and obstacles.
  • Oversee team resources effectively, maintaining, or exceeding project metrics and coordinate schedules as needed.
  • Review and maintain project execution plans, ensuring consistency, thoroughness, and timeliness in team communications.
  • Initiate and oversee office quality control procedures to uphold the firm's standards of excellence.
  • Facilitate internal and external communications as appropriate, representing the team and the firm with professionalism and expertise.

Required Skills :

  • Demonstrated ability to present technical solutions to clients, subconsultants, and other stakeholders with confidence and clarity.
  • Proficiency in project planning and execution, collaborating closely with Market Sector Principals & Studio Directors to achieve project objectives.
  • Strong time management skills, with a focus on streamlining processes and procedures to increase efficiency and quality.
  • Familiarity and / or proficiency in structural engineering software, with a preference for experience with RISA and Revit.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's and / or master's degree in civil engineering or architectural engineering with a focus in structures.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience on a variety of project types, with 15 years preferred.
