Duties

  • The District Manager serves as the principal line officer in a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) District with responsibility for providing leadership, motivation, direction, and decisions consistent with BLM and Department of Interior (DOI) Policies.
  • Develop and implement a District vision / strategy which integrates key national and State program goals, priorities, values, and political, economic, social, technological, and administrative factors.
  • Develop and implement strategies which maximize employee potential and foster high ethical standards in meeting the BLM's vision, mission, and goals.
  • Technical and administrative supervision of a large and complex staff, which requires managing work through subordinate supervisors including field managers, team leaders, and / or contractors who each direct substantial workloads.
  • Coordinate activities through a leadership team for managing renewable and non-renewable resources; socio- economic and tribal issues;

support services including admin, engineering, procurement; HR related actions; law enforcement and fire.

  • Administration of a variety of management programs such as safety, upward mobility, EEO, student and intern opportunities, overtime usage, employee engagement, management of real and personal property, etc.
  • Perform personnel management tasks such as making selections for district positions; approving annual and sick leave; establishing performance standards and evaluating performance;

recognizing and awarding performance; maintaining discipline.

Assess current and future staffing needs based on goals and budget realities; oversee the allocation of financial resources;

manage the district's budgetary process; oversee procurement and contracting procedures and processes.
