Overview

Position Summary : The Patient Services Rep II provides patient-families with a positive experience at CHLA by performing clerical tasks primarily associated with answering incoming calls, registration, and patient check-in / out procedures, collection of patient co-pay or deductibles, scheduling and verifying patient appointments.

The PSR II plays a vital role in providing a positive experience for patient-families at CHLA Teaching Clinics. This position is responsible for interfacing with parents, Medi-Cal, California Children Services (CCS), Managed Care, third-party payers, and physicians to ensure all notification, verification, and authorization activities are completed accurately.

The PSR II updates all demographic and insurance information in the STAR system identified during the insurance verification process and serves as the gatekeeper to ensure all accounts have up-to-date authorizations.

This role also involves requesting authorizations for medications, scheduling new patient appointments, and follow-up appointments.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Interface with parents, Medi-Cal, CCS, Managed Care, third-party payers, and physicians.
  • Complete notification, verification, and authorization activities for CHLA Teaching Clinics.
  • Update demographic and insurance information in the STAR system.
  • Ensure all accounts have current authorizations.
  • Request authorizations for medications.
  • Schedule new patient appointments and follow-up appointments.
  • Answer incoming calls and perform patient check-in / out procedures.
  • Collect patient co-pays or deductibles.
  • Schedule and verify patient appointments.
  • Complete financial clearance and authorization duties.
  • Serve as the administrative support for assigned providers.

Minimum Qualifications : 1-year experience in medical front office setting, 3+ years in medical office setting preferred.

  • Bilingual English / Spanish is preferred.
  • Excellent telephone manner and ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the insurance process, including Medical, CCS, and Commercial Insurance.
  • Proficiency in multi-tasking.
  • Familiarity with Cerner and Allscripts.
  • Experience working with Medi-Cal, CCS, Managed Care, and third-party payers.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance verification and authorization processes.
  • Proficiency in using STAR, Cerner, and Allscripts systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform clerical tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Experience in scheduling patient appointments and handling financial clearances.
  • Strong administrative support skills.

Education / Licensure / Certifications : High school diploma or GED required.

Pay Scale Information

$38,272.00-$65,062.00

CHLA values the contribution each Team Member brings to our organization. Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry.

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description.
