Description :
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled technical diagnostic, journey level repair and maintenance work on a variety of automotive, truck, tractors and other light and heavy power-driven equipment.
Qualifications :
High School GED or equivalent AND experience equivalent to three (3) years full-time vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair;
OR completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a Mechanic. Must possess or be able to obtain a Forklift Operator and an Air Conditioning Certificate.
Must possess a valid Class A Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at a level appropriate to the equipment operated including HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements.
May be required to obtain various ASE certifications AND State Safety Inspection Certifications.
Responsibilities :
In coordination with the Service Writer and / or Lead Mechanic, performs vehicle and equipment repairs; completes work orders and maintains records of work performed and parts used on the work orders;
works with operators as needed to verify symptoms; verifies repairs and maintenance have been properly completed. Maintains safe working space including proper shop functions and housekeeping practices.
- Performs major and minor diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on : gasoline and diesel engines; air and hydraulic brake components, drums, discs and cylinders, tires, wheels, steering and suspension;
- hydraulic systems and power take-offs on heavy equipment and vehicles; power-train and related systems; drive-train and related systems;
- vehicle and equipment HVAC; lighting and electrical; electronic systems and components including computerized modules; accessory equipment and specialized vehicle equipment;
performs welding tasks including redesign and fabrication of components for vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of tools, equipment, and procedures used in major and minor diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on gasoline and diesel powered equipment.
Knowledge of gas and arc welding and electrical systems and equipment. Knowledge of general techniques, materials and practices of vehicle and equipment mechanics and related trades.
Knowledge of computer software used to complete assigned projects including : MS Office products, web browsers, email, and work order processing software.
Skill in performing journey level equipment mechanical work including the trouble-shooting of equipment for both major and minor repairs.
Skill in the use of a variety of handheld and power tools and equipment. Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to read and understand various diagnostic charts including : electrical wiring, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics;
diagnostic flow charts; exploded view diagrams, etc., both orally and in writing.
