The Senior Controls Programmer works independently under the guidance of the Controls Engineering Manager, duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to installing, programming, testing, diagnosing, and repairing building automation systems (BAS) including HVAC and other integrated systems.
This position is also responsible for managing projects and reviewing sequence of operations on new construction and renovation projects.
Other duties include updating maintaining databases through web interfaces that provides system access for monitoring and diagnosis for operations personnel.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment.

Duties to Include :
- Assist building operators with HVAC system assessments to help identify optimized operational improvements for campus buildings.
- Implement university control strategies through programming of building automation software utilizing custom high-end programming.
- Support HVAC balancing and commissioning by assisting with troubleshooting and making changes to programming and related documentation.
- Review project designs to ensure that control components and sequences are maintainable and adhere to current university design standards.
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public while performing all work assigned.

About Facilities Management :
Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards for our downtown Iowa City campus and Oakdale campus in Coralville.
FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design and construction, and maintain and clean the buildings and grounds.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of related education and experience with an emphasis on building automation systems programming
- Professional experience (typically minimum of 3-5 years) construction coordination of major facilities and HVAC systems, including experience in building systems design, installation, operation, and commissioning as it relates to university standards.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork and interact with clients in a professional and responsive manner.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of DDC building automation systems
- Ability to perform quick and accurate building automation control adjustments to maintain system performance due to equipment failures.
- Familiarity with construction site safety guidelines.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, control drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, sequences of operation, and installation and operation manuals.
- Willingness to learn new HVAC controller lines, software, and new concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the desire and drive to achieve optimized results for system operation.
- Strong attention to detail
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Desired Qualifications :
- Experience in a customer focused, team-oriented environment.
- 5-10 years’ experience in programming and installing complex HVAC systems, with preference to Schneider EBO Controls systems.
- HVAC and / or control system design experience.
- Ability to troubleshoot HVAC system problems utilizing building automation system data.
- Ability to provide mechanical, electrical, and DDC control training in building systems operation.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa Direct Digital Control systems, and HVAC building systems.
- Able to provide clarity and direction to complex and ambiguous problems and challenges
