Job Description

The Associate Dean, Curricular Affairs leads the curriculum of the MD program, managing the overall operations, budget, and personnel.

This role determines budgetary priorities and supervises the development of annual budgets for all units under direct supervision for submission and approval.

Manages directors and supervisors, ensuring their leadership and supervision are fiscally responsible, effective at achieving departmental goals, and supportive of the UNR Med culture.

Ensures faculty, student, and staff participation in departmental and school-wide activities as appropriate to their role.

Communicates and liaises with departmental chairs with the goal of collaborative curricular work. Supports and creates a positive, diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students.

Identifies professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.

The Associate Dean, Curricular Affairs is responsible for the design and execution of all curricular activities across the four-year undergraduate medical education (MD) program through the administration, program management, and ongoing curricular renovation activities.

Ensures alignment of curricular and medical education practices with accreditation standards.

Directs and supervises curricular design, implementation and student evaluation and coordinates the associated educational programs.

Designs, reviews, and updates (as needed) school-wide curricular, assessment and advancement policies.

In collaboration with the Assistant Dean, Institutional Assessment and Accreditation and the Faculty Accreditation Lead (FAL), oversees all LCME accreditation elements related to the MD curriculum and collaborates with other leaders on school wide LCME accreditation activities.

Reviews and acts on MD program evaluation data with the goal of ongoing curricular improvement. Provides reports in mutually agreed upon timeframes to the Assistant Dean of Institutional Assessment and Accreditation, FAL and the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee as requested.

Collaborates with academic department chairs, unit leaders, and clinical partners and affiliates to ensure sufficiency and diversity of clinical sites for undergraduate medical education, develop and maintain high quality learner instruction as guided by pedagogical best practices and direction from the Medical Education Steering Committee (MESC).

Assigns financial support as appropriate and review performance data for academic and administrative faculty who contribute to the curriculum.

Collaborates with the Assistant Dean, Admissions and Associate Dean, Student Affairs in development and implementation of student support services relevant to the medical education program (academic support, career advising).

Collaborates on outreach and recruitment programming for prospective students.

Supports a positive learning environment by serving on the Student Affairs and Personnel Committee, developing policies that support the success of students in the MD program, and ensuring that annual tasks for maintaining the learning environment are completed.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience, teaching experience, and a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural humility.

This candidate will also demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, innovation, and success strategically achieving results in student-centric medical education.

Required Qualifications

MD, DO, MD-PhD, DO-PhD or equivalent and three years of professional experience in medical education leadership at an accredited (e.

g. LCME) medical school.

Compensation Grade

variable and dependent upon clinical specialty and experience. Candidates may be considered for the ranks of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
