DEA is looking for a dynamic individual to lead and help shape a culture of safety. The Corporate Safety Manager will oversee all safety and training policies, practices and compliance for DEA.
The successful candidate will work to ensure that operations, engineering, surveying and construction management activities are conducted in compliance with applicable Federal, State, and company safety regulations and the company's programs and policies remain in line with accepted best practices.
This position ideally will be located in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon or Washington) but could work out of any of our offices located in the Western United States.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Safety :
- Provides leadership and promotes a positive safety culture.
- Anticipate, develop and administer all safety policies and procedures including the DEA Health and Safety Program.
- Review and revise DEA safety policies and procedures yearly or more often if needed.
- Oversee compliance of all safety policies and procedures via site visits, inspections, review of accidents, etc.
- Manage workers' compensation, restricted duty, and return to work claims.
- Coordinate with local occupational health clinics and ensure compliance with state workers' compensation laws.
- Develop a routine safety communication protocol that reviews all accidents and identifies trends.
- Investigate near misses and accidents, determine root causes and examine possible improvements to prevent repeat accidents.
Bring all accidents to the Safety Committee for discussion and risk assessment.
- Provides recommendations and training for selection, use, and inspection of appropriate PPE.
- Liaison with other safety / risk management personnel on job sites, with insurance companies and brokers, etc.
- Serve as a resource to supervisors and project managers on safety issues, pre-qualifications of bids, development of site-specific safety programs, etc.
- Communication across the organization on company-wide safety issues
- Prepare OSHA 300 / 300A ongoing & annually as per Dept. of Labor and post as required
- Manage the reporting and insurance claim process for any accidents / incidents that occur to a DEA vehicle
- Manage DEA's FRA Drug and Alcohol screening program and railroad background screenings and badging
Safety Training :
- Keep current on all safety training requirements and anticipate training needs of DEA Provide training for DEA employees on topics including, but not limited to : Fall protection, Respiratory protection, Trenching and excavation, Confined space Fleet Safety
- Coordinate training with outside vendors as needed.
- Provide support and training materials for field supervisors.
- Develop and implement new hire orientation.
Basic Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, safety, business administration, management information systems, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience as a safety officer in either a construction or engineering firm.
- Experience managing and implementing compliance programs including : ISNetworld and similar compliance resources.
- 3+ years of investigation and root cause analysis identification with respect to the following : workplace injury, equipment damage, regulatory audits, and client requested analysis
- Ability to travel 10-20% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification
- Master's degree in engineering, environmental science, safety, business administration, management information systems, or related discipline.
- 15 years of experience in safety with at least 5 years managing a corporate safety program.

- Potential salary range is $175,000 - $225,000 depending on location and experience
