Buyer/Planner - Purchasing

The Buyer / Planner forecasts, plans, and purchases supplies for the organization ensuring that the level of supplies meets the OR schedule and stock levels required to maintain operational continuity.

The Buyer / Planner delivers efficient, effective and flexible solutions to meet OR requirements. Maintains strong relationships both internally and externally to ensure supply of materials meets requirements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Using Materials Requirements Planning (MRP), forecasts and schedules the supply of materials / components, including day-to-day purchase order release and management, to meet the Surgery schedule requirements and minimum safety stock levels.
  • Lead internal and external relationships to ensure consistent, timely and effective communication regarding material availability.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with suppliers and ensure demand for materials is met and deliveries are made on time.
  • Understand and manage risks to minimize impact on the Surgery schedule.
  • Timely resolution of material shortages that affect the Surgery schedule.
  • Implement all processes to standards and targets, support continuous improvement initiatives and identify areas of improvement.
  • Utilize SAP-MRP and ensure that data is accurate and up-to-date and resolve any issues identified.
  • Monitor the integrity of Preference Cards
  • Manage inventory accuracy. Monitor inventory levels against agreed upon target levels.
  • Minimize obsolete stock and ensure business is left with minimum liability
  • Create regular statistical reports and analysis for others in the organization.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.
  • A minimum of three years' experience working with MRP planning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience using MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - written, verbal, and leadership.
  • Knowledge of Lean and / or Six Sigma techniques may be advantageous.
  • Project management skills.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Office computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point. Database such as Access is a plus.
