Job Summary :
The Category Advisor will act as Walmart’s category expert by providing best in class category & shopper insights and actionable go-to-market recommendations.
They will work closely with Walmart’s merchant team to develop and grow total category sales by analyzing various data sources, identifying business insights, and recommending solutions.
This position works as a strategic thought leader, imparting knowledge of the category and member to drive profitable business results.
Responsibilities :
Act as the subject matter expert for the category to Walmart by providing thought leadership guidance and recommendations
Serve as the expert on the use of syndicated data to assist Walmart in making well informed decisions from actionable insights
Generate weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reporting to provide insights, identify opportunities and deliver solutions that drive profitable category growth.
Own the annual relay process including drawing and submitting all MODS
Leverage learnings from cross functional counterparts (e.g., Category Development, Consumer Insight, Customer Insights, etc.
to deliver impactful recommendations to Walmart
Develop presentations and present to the merchant and key stakeholders (e.g., category 101’s, business reviews, consumer / shopper POV’s, etc.)
Form perspective on multi-channel purchasing behaviors (e.g., site to store, store to site, etc.) Monitor channel shifting and the associated trends reflected in the marketplace
Key Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree (emphasis in business / marketing or related field)
5+ years of experience working with a leading CPG company in category management (Walmart Advisor experience required).
Demonstrated knowledge of Category Management philosophies, tools and processes and proven record of success. Having held a category advisor role is highly preferred.
Ability to build strong sustainable working relationships with Walmart, and cross functionally within Newell (Category Development, Consumer and Shopper Insights).
Strategic thinking, self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with aggressive deadlines.
Advanced analytical skills and computer software proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.).
Advanced understanding and experience with space planning software (JDA / Blue Yonder) and leveraging best in class shelving principles
Strong familiarity with syndicated data metrics and software and retailer POS (e.g., NPD, IRI, Nielsen, Numerator, Retail Link, and Luminate).
Prior experience analyzing retailer data and presenting key findings and recommendations to the customer. (Luminate experience preferred)
Proven ability to analyze and identify insights from a combination of data sources.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong project management, follow-up, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
