Overview
The Undergraduate Admissions Office is responsible for identifying, attracting and enrolling students in sufficient numbers to meet the University’s enrollment projections while improving the quality of the student population.
The office processes approximately 26, applications yearly, including freshmen, transfers, readmits, visitors and non-degree adult learners.
In order to develop an applicant relationship with these individuals, the office is involved in many public relations activities which generate over , inquiries for additional information and for applications.
The Admissions Office’s activities are performed by a staff which includes a substantial operations / processing staff, receptionists / administrative assistants, as well as counselors, assistant directors, associate directors, senior associate directors, and director.
Job Duties The Transfer Admissions Counselor is responsible for supporting the recruitment of transfer students to East Carolina University.
The Transfer Admissions Counselor reports directly to the Associate Director for Transfer Recruitment.
Responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic transfer recruitment plan in a territory designated by the Associate Director for Transfer Recruitment.
Reports information related to the outcome of transfer recruitment initiatives to include budgetary impact and enrollment funnel data for the designated territory.
Presents information sessions at East Carolina University and in community colleges, college fairs, and other special events.
Advises and counsels prospective transfer students and their families on the educational opportunities at ECU, transfer admissions criteria, policies, procedures, academic and major scholarship programs and student services within the university.
Assists in the development, maintenance and execution of the office’s communication plan for prospective and admitted transfer students, online resources for internal and external constituents and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions handbook.
Evaluates applications and participates in recruitment activities. Participates in regular professional development and training initiatives related to the recruiter and Banner systems through which information is stored and managed.
Represents the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at university meetings and committees where appropriate. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director for Transfer Recruitment and the Director of Admissions.
60% Transfer Territory Management
- Establish and maintain contact with each of the community colleges in assigned territory
- Collaborate with community college advisors for student events
- Maintain student contact / communication throughout the entire admissions cycle
- Utilize both virtual and in-person recruitment strategies
30% Recruitment Team Support
- Serve on-call / email to support prospective students
- Represent University at events or presentations
- Individual Projects as assigned by supervisor
- Complete other duties as assigned
10% Continuous Training and Learning
- Attend office training for CRM, Banner, etc.
- Support new staff trainings
- Professional development opportunities
This position is contingent upon available funding. Minimum Education / Experience Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Communication and interpersonal skills are imperative for this position. Position requires a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of the date of hire.

Experience working with community college transfer students. Knowledge of ECU, catalogs from other institutions, departmental brochures and handbooks, the transfer course equivalences and various directories and educational guides.
