Alaska Testlab (ATL) is a one-of-a-kind employer-based out of Anchorage with laboratories in Fairbanks and Kodiak. ATL specializes in construction field testing, laboratory testing of soils, rock, aggregates, concrete, masonry and bituminous mixtures, special inspection services, and other specialty services throughout Alaska.

Summary

Alaska Testlab employs Inspectors to perform civil and structural inspections on roadway, building, and mining projects across Alaska.

Work is in accordance with the plans and specifications under the supervision of a Field Supervisor & / or professional engineer.

Inspectors review plans, observe construction of various elements, prepare daily reports, and communicate with Contractors, Owners, and office personnel.

Inspector will also direct lower level technicians during testing on projects.

Remote travel and both day and night shifts are likely. Accommodations provided during travel as well as meals or meal allowance.

Core Functions

  • Inspect and observe construction projects under supervision of a senior inspector or project manager.
  • Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications.
  • Field testing and inspection duties related to soil, concrete, masonry, wood, asphalt, fireproofing, architectural aspects, finish systems, and rack construction.
  • Prepare and submit clear, concise, and legible daily reports of observations and test results.
  • Document test data, results, and observations.
  • Communicate daily and as needed with supervisors, coworkers, clients, contractors, owners, municipal employees, and engineering staff.
  • Perform standard tests and collect data.
  • Proactively work towards additional certifications and licenses.
  • Perform routine calculations and measurements.
  • Maintain company vehicle and equipment in good working order.
  • Proven dependability and capability on job site. Proven positive client interaction and presentability.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education & Experience

High School diploma or equivalent, and availability to work from April through September / October are required. One year of inspection experience required.

A minimum of three years field testing experience and one year of laboratory testing experience preferred. Ability to read plans and specifications.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

Must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

  • ICC Certification (concrete, soils) is desired with ability to obtain additional certifications
  • ACI Certification is required within 6 months of hire.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The job involves being subjected to the elements including extreme cold and heat and hazards including, but not limited to, working on scaffolding, moving vehicles, and moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Physical demands include listening, talking, writing, walking, sitting, standing, regularly lifting modest payloads (rarely more than 75lbs.
