Athletic Trainer Details
Essential Job Duties :
- Responsible for following the patient care from check-in to check-out.
- Educates patients on home exercise protocols per physician request.
- Fits patient with braces.
- Casts application and removal.
- Splints fabrication and application.
- Schedules physical therapy for patients.
- Pre-certify with patient's insurance.
- Orders Durable Medical Equipment.
- Performs suture and staple removal.
- Performs dressing changes.
- Assists with and prepares injections for the physicians.
- Responsible for taking patient vital signs and history.
- Monitors patient's physical therapy progress.
- Schedules MRI's, bone scans, and doppler tests.
- Performs cleaning of storage room.
- Checks expiration date on supplies and keeps patient rooms stocked.
- Triage patient messages.
- Assists with filing of patient charts and / or reports.
- Uses effective communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Contributes to the plan of care through accurate reporting of patient information.
- Anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgeon.
- Demonstrates an understanding of physical and emotional needs of the surgical patient.
- Establishes priorities in the plan of patient care.
- Utilizes basic principles of aseptic technique, infection control, correct body mechanics, and application of restraints when planning patient care.
- Responsible for DME fitting and education as well as casting.
- Liaison between patient and physician
- Assists in meeting the clinical needs of students in all communications, role modeling, and positive reinforcement.
- Travels to the Hospital to perform cast / splint applications as needed.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
- Shows an understanding of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret appropriate in
Qualifications :
- High school graduate / GED.
- Graduate from an accredited school for Athletic Training Program.
License / Certification :
- Indiana Athletic Trainer License.
- BLS level of CPR certification is required.
