General Purpose of Job :
The Special Research Project Coordinator is a community health worker who serves in two capacities : as a Team Lead for the grant-funded Maternal Health CHAMPions program and as an entry-level research coordinator for the Global Institute for Hispanic Health (GIHH).
The Team Lead works collaboratively with the GIHH staff, Driscoll Health Plan, and Texas A&M School of Nursing, as well as program participants and stakeholders, to facilitate the equipping and deployment of maternal health CHAMPions in the Coastal Bend community.
The Team Lead coordinates the CHAMPions program activities within Driscoll Health System, serves as the mentor and team leader for CHAMPions CHWs and carries a caseload of clients participating in the Community Hands Advancing Maternal Health Promotion CHAMPions program.
The Team Lead position provides oversight for a team of CHWs delivering community-based education and connection with the health care support network through home visits.
The Team Lead coordinates the collection and reporting of program and participant data to project leaders for the CHAMPions program and creates a supportive organizational environment and culture conducive to program success.
GIHH Research Coordinator responsibilities include assisting the Lead Coordinator as needed with participant recruitment and scheduling, data entry, supply management, and quality assurance.

Carries a caseload of home visit clients, providing comprehensive family and maternal-child health home visiting services to pregnant and postpartum mothers participating in the Community Hands Advancing Maternal Health Promotion CHAMPions program, in accordance with Maternal Health Research Network (MHRN) for MSAs Research Awards Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA).
The number of clients will vary over course of employment.
Assists with recruitment and retention of maternal health CHAMPions.
Engages with community members by delivering layperson outreach and education about maternal health risks and warning signs through publicly available programs such as Hear Her, Text4Baby and One Pill Kills.
Promotes the development and maintenance of community health worker core competencies through regular case conferences and team meetings, reflective supervision and evaluation.
Facilitates trainings, staff development, group meetings and program activities.
Supports program staff to facilitate verification of home visits, daily work reports and any other documentation for program execution.
Adheres to all policies and procedures in accordance with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) program requirements, and Driscoll Health System requirements.
Communicates regularly with program clients and community stakeholders
Continuously expands knowledge and understanding of community resources and service programs provided through Maternal Health CHAMPions and associated programs
Assists in planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring CHAMPions programs and services.
Assists in the development of policies and procedures.
Follows organizational policies, procedures, and protocols and works to ensure all safety and regulatory guidelines are adhered to.
Follows attendance and punctuality rules.

Program Outreach, Communications & Expansion
Serves as a key member of the CHAMPions program team.
Promotes the CHAMPions program at local, regional, and state levels.
Completes required trainings and participates in professional development.
Coordinates specialized CHAMPions program communications and marketing materials.
Attends team meetings and conferences to discuss the progress of the CHAMPions program.
Collaborates in related program outreach and expansion activities such as research and publications.
Program Reporting and Monitoring
Compiles and reports program service metrics (i.e., productivity reports, client progress).
Promotes timely collection and compilation of assessment activities and client data reports
Assists in the preparation and maintenance of budgets, special reports, and other documents as needed for the CHAMPions program.
GIHH Research Coordinator Duties
Assists with participant screening and recruitment.
Schedules research participant visits as needed in support of study team,
Abstracts study data from the medical record and research documents for entry into sponsor data capture systems.
Assists with supply management, and general research quality assurance activities.

Supervises the following job classes : Community Health Worker
Supervises up to three (3) Community Hands Advancing Maternal Health Promotion CHAMPions CHWs to ensure care delivery in accordance with CHW core competencies and CHAMPion program guidelines.
Accompanies CHAMPions CHWs to periodically supervise home visits and community education activities. Supervision goals include :
ensuring the fidelity of CHAMPions curriculum delivery,
assessment of CHW core competencies,
observation of program interventions and assessment delivery
quality assurance of data collection and program standards mentoring and professional development of CHW competencies.
Education and / or Experience :
Bachelor's degree (B. A. / B.S.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and / or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.
Successful completion of a Texas state approved Community Health Worker and Certification Program within 90 days of employment.
Continued education is required to maintain Certification.
