SANITARIAN II - Public Health
Summary
- Protect public health by inspecting permitted facilities, food service, swimming pools, on-site sewage facilities, and enforce related laws, rules and regulations.
- Perform educational activities related to public health, respond to emergencies and investigate complaints including but not limited to vector control, general sanitation, water pollution and air quality.
- Make decisions in areas of specialization based on experience and advanced training.
- Work independently on projects.
- Assist in training new employees; develop new procedures and methods to achieve goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Performs inspections of regulated facilities to ensure compliance with laws, rules and regulations
2. Performs investigations of complaints
3. Prepares written reports and correspondence of activities
4. Educates public in matters of public health
5. Interacts with members of the pubic and other governmental officials
6. Appears in court as part of enforcement of laws, rules and regulations
7. Reviews plans of permitted facilities
8. Performs investigation on disease outbreaks
9. Trains other staff members
10. Produces reports and presentations
11. Gathers and analyzes information to make recommendations and decisions
12. Provides technical assistance in a variety of fields
13. Travels to sites where inspections, investigations or education is taking place
14. Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required
Minimum Requirements
NOTE : YOU MUST FILL OUT THE WORK HISTORY and EDUCATION SECTIONS OF APPLICATION TO SHOW YOU HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION AS REQUIRED BY HIRING DEPARTMENT OR BE DISQUALIFIED.
TO APPLY, must have a Bachelor's Degree with thirty (30) hours of Science acceptable for Registration as a Professional Sanitarian in Texas + Two (2) full-time years of field experience
TO APPLY, must have a Master's Degree or higher with thirty (30) hours of Science acceptable for Registration as a Professional Sanitarian in Texas.
TO APPLY, must have a valid Texas driver's license .
TO APPLY, must be a Registered Sanitarian .
Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations; ability to deal with the public; ability to use computers with knowledge of common software;
good communication skills; other position specific knowledge and skills as determined by the department.
