Job Summary
- This role will support design development Structural engineering designs for the project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
- Work with other Structural engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment.
This is a full time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Reston, VA project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in Reston, VA for the first three months, then may offer part-time telework flexibility.
Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project.
Major Responsibilities :
- Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations and specifications.
- Reviews and coordinates technical documents with / from other engineering disciplines.
- Prepare technical reports relates to specific design issues.
- Manage specifically assigned project activities.
- Provides technical direction to designers and less experienced engineers as directed.
- Assist in constructability reviews.
- Contacts counterpart in other disciplines, supplier / client representatives and project field personnel when directed, to either gather or give information.
- Schedule and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering deliverables.
- Lead and / or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.
- Prepare conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Analyze structures using ANSYS or GTSTRUDL.
Education and Experience Requirements :
- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
Required Knowledge and Skills :
- Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
- Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex steel and / or concrete structures.
- Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7.
- Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or ANSYS.
- Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation or AutoCad.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
- Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.
- Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
- Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
- Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, and background check.
Preferred :
- Have a U.S. Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software.
- Thorough knowledge of the provisions of ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 4-98, ASCE 7, and IBC codes.
- Familiar with Bechtel standard programs.
- Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.
- Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).
- Experience in the structural design of Nuclear facilities.
- Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.
- Experience in resolving field problems associated with FCNs, FCRs, NCRs, CRs, and / or SDDRs.
- Experience with GE Nuclear Plant designs.
- Modular reactor plant design experience.
