Under direction of the Radiologist, performs a variety of technical procedures applying ionizing radiation to demonstrate cross-sectional anatomy for the purpose of detecting pathology.
Performs procedures utilizing CT scan table, gantry, and computer console equipment. Functions using independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity when performing technical procedures.
Manages and monitors equipment used to expose the image. Develops and organizes diagnostic quality images prior to giving them to the radiologist for interpretation.
Requires the ability to work with all age groups of patients and physical conditions, to include pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Responsible for delivering high quality services, and to interact appropriately with patients and their representatives, physicians, and co-workers.
Will safely manage the environment of care while providing services. Complete tasks assigned by management for the improvement of the Imaging Department.
Essential Functions :
- Review physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and applicability to select Diagnostic exam. If modification of a diagnostic protocol is necessary consult with radiologist and the ordering physician to determine appropriate diagnostic exam, and document changes as appropriate in electronic health record.
- Interviews patient and obtains medical history pertaining to prescribed exam’s clinical criteria. Always use AIDET Acknowledge the patient Introduce yourself Explains procedure and Instructs patient on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images then Thank the Patient.
Answers questions and screens patients regarding the administration of oral and IV contrast.
- Assists the physician as needed in performing diagnostic procedures.
- Ensures that images and information are properly documented with patient identification data and appropriate labeling in the electronic health record.
- Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age specific criteria.
- Performs diagnostic exams ensuring that patient meets radiation safety requirements to ALARA and Image Gently principles.
Job Requirements :
- Graduate of a 2 year accredited school of Radiology
- American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography (R) and CT.
- Current MRT license with State of Texas
- BLS AHA
