About the Job
The Department of Public Safety provides video surveillance, card access, security alarm monitoring and administration to the University of Minnesota on a system-wide basis.
These services are provided on a for the good of the University basis, utilizing central funding.The University’s investment in the technology to support these functions must be properly planned, maintained, and enhanced for maximum efficiency and utilization.
The data generated by these systems must also be managed in accordance with state statutes and federal law.
Position Description
The Emergency Communications Center within Public Safety (PSECC) has the primary responsibility for the planning, strategy, operation, and maintenance of the centralized security systems.
Under the direction of the PSECC Assistant Director and in collaboration with various stakeholders, this position will provide critical support in the planning, development, and ongoing coordination of security projects for the following University security systems :
- Electronic Access Control System
- Video Management System
- Electronic Key Management System
- Biometric Components
- Central Station Alarm Monitoring System
Salary : $80,000, depending on experience (DOE)
Major activities will include monitoring project progress at all stages, tracking and reporting on administration of the systems, procurement of goods and services, and other administrative duties.
Operational Responsibilities (80%)
- Participates in project design processes.
- Prepares and coordinates deliverables, collaborates on schedules, budget, and resources.
- Conducts analyses and communicates with project team and / or decision makers.
- Performs system operation reviews and prepares work orders for maintenance and repairs.
- Tracks and reports on work order and ticket status.
- Liaises with internal and external project managers throughout entire process.
Administrative Responsibilities (20%)
- Solicits proposals for product procurement and services.
- Prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders for security goods and services.
- Assists with equipment tracking, inventory, and maintenance.
- Monitors and tracks budget expenses for projects and work orders.
- Prepares reports and presentations.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
BA / BS degree in IT, security, or closely related field with 6 years of progressive professional experience in installing, programming, and maintaining security systems;
managing databases and application software for enterprise systems.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check after offer is made.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Security Design, Security Systems, or similar
- Experience working with security in a large, complex environment
- Project, supervisory, or team lead experience.

- Attention to detail, particularly under pressure.

Work Environment
This is a hands-on position in a 24x7x365, high impact, high performing environment.Work is generally performed in an office setting weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed with potential for 24-hour availability.
Some field work is required, as well as travel to coordinate campuses and properties.
