Public Safety Officer (PRN)
With the general supervision of the Public Safety Manager, the Public Safety Officer completes regular tours of BMC, patrols grounds on foot and in vehicle to maintain order throughout BMC property.
Responsible for protecting life and property of all persons on hospital premises and polices BMC buildings and grounds in order to prevent and / or respond quickly to fire, theft, assault or vandalism.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Iowa driver’s license.
- May not be convicted of a crime other than a minor traffic violation in the previous five (5) years, may not be convicted of a felony crime at any time;
and may not have more than three moving violations in a 12-month period.
- One year of security, behavioral health, or related experience, or completion of a two- or four-year degree in a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
- Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
- Ability to physically manage aggressive individuals, including physically restraining.
- Ability to complete training necessary for the performance of the job (e.g., weapon systems of Taser, ASP Baton, and OC Spray successfully completed through BMC within six months of hire date).
Taser and OC Spray training require exposure to these weapon systems.
Ability to remain calm during crisis situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Security experience in a health care facility.
- Basic Training Certification from the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety.
- AA degree in Criminal Justice.
- 1+ years of law enforcement experience.
- 3+ years of military law enforcement or security experience.
- Completion of an approved basic or intermediate law enforcement academy.
- Bilingual.
