TITLE : Construction Trades Program Instructor - Career & Technical Education

JOB GOAL(S) : The program instructor's primary role is the instructional delivery and program management in a classroom and lab environment.

Instructors are responsible for leading the instructional program and implementing activities for high school students working toward careers in the construction trades industry.

The instructor is responsible for meeting the unique needs of the students assigned to the program and preparing students for careers in the construction trades profession.

QUALIFICATIONS : A minimum of 4000 hours (approximately 2 years) of recent industry experience is required.

Bachelors degree in education from an accredited college or university with a major / minor in construction trades preferred.

State of Michigan Residential Builders License preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE Demonstrated successful work history in the construction trades field.

Teaching experience at the secondary level preferred. Knowledge of subject matter / course content and industry standards relevant to assignment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Develop a curriculum designed to achieve the state goals of the program.
  • Plan and provide clear and intentional focused instruction using state and industry standards, subject matter content.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement, and program success.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Maintain and submit information / records for state reporting, student progress and data collection.
  • Attend and participate in various meetings including advisory committee meetings for the purpose of implementing program initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Actively seek consultation and advice from the Advisory Committee about prevailing practices, equipment and facilities necessary for maintaining up-to-date competencies and an up-to-date instructional program.
  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment using effective classroom management and discipline strategies.
  • Organize, manage and maintain the instructional facility equipment and resources.
  • Work with related instructors in the high school and at the post-secondary level to maintain program articulation, a good working relationship and a positive program image.
  • Implement and comply with district policies and procedures as well as building policies and procedures.
  • Identify and make use of school and community resources which will contribute to the effectiveness of the students' learning experiences.
  • Maintain a program inventory control system.
  • Manage a basic program budget.
  • Develop and manage a planned preventive maintenance program for the program equipment.
