Position Overview
The GM will be the driving force behind the team, leading all aspects of business operations, ensuring organizational alignment with our mission, and managing strategic growth.
This role requires a start-up mentality, with the ability to think nimbly and strategically, while developing systems and processes to maximize efficiency.
This role involves setting the cultural tone for staff and fans while fostering community connections and sustainable revenue streams.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a cohesive organizational culture and efficient operations that reflect the team’s mission and values.
- Lead all business and sales operations, setting objectives to maintain a high-performance environment.
Community Engagement
- Foster relationships with local organizations, fan groups, politicians, activists, and stakeholders to strengthen community ties.
- Represent the team at community events and act as the public face of the franchise.
Team Management
- Recruit, build, and manage a high-performing team across key areas, including :
- Marketing & Promotions : Develop marketing campaigns, partnerships, and fan engagement initiatives. Manage online presence (social media, website, email marketing) to drive ticket and merchandise sales.
- Sponsorships & Partnerships : Identify, cultivate, and secure sponsorships with local businesses. Negotiate agreements and ensure sponsor fulfillment and activation.
- Merchandise & Apparel : Collaborate with designers and suppliers for team merchandise. Implement sales strategies both online and at games.
- Concessions : Oversee vendors, menu development, and pricing. Monitor inventory, sales, and quality control for an enhanced fan experience.
- Field & Facility Management : Manage relationships with facility stakeholders and oversee game-day operations, maintenance, and improvements.
Financial Stewardship
- Oversee organizational budgeting, financial planning, and revenue strategies, ensuring long-term growth and cost control.
- Develop marketing and sales strategies for corporate sponsorships, group sales, memberships, and other revenue channels.
Public Relations and Communications
Act as the public spokesperson, conveying the team’s mission and initiatives to the public and media.
Operations & Fan Experience
- Coordinate with city officials on ballpark lease, capital improvements, and facility use.
- Innovate to enhance revenue streams within the ballpark, collaborating with food, beverage, and merchandise vendors.
- Address customer concerns promptly to deliver exceptional fan experiences.
Staff Leadership and Development
- Mentor, train, and support all team staff, fostering a culture of performance and engagement.
- Lead recruitment and development, ensuring the team is equipped to meet organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 7 10 years in senior management, with a proven track record in sports or a related industry.
- Extensive experience in sponsorship, ticket sales, budgeting, and operational management.
- Exceptional communication, public speaking, and organizational skills.
- Proven community engagement experience and understanding of baseball operations.
- Familiarity with computerized ticketing and ballpark systems.
- Startup experience and a strong customer service orientation are a plus.
