Purpose
Provide journeyman-level skills and expertise applicable to the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, repair, and evaluation of medium voltage electrical power distribution systems.
Repair and maintain the outdoor area, street, and recreation / spotlighting.
General Notes
Security sensitive; three-year driving record and criminal background checks conducted on selected candidate. Applicant required to successfully complete physical abilities testing to remove / replace a large manhole cover weighing 100 lbs and drag 10 ft.
push / pull 100 lbs resistance; lift / carry 90 lbs, lift one-45 lbs of weight up a ladder, kneeling work in confined spaces, and other tasks.
Hiring decision is contingent upon applicant clearing checks. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Work on call, and overtime as requested.
Work on elevated structures.
Responsibilities
Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify low and medium voltage metal-enclosed and metal-clad switchgear. All underground, exposed and overhead distribution systems including raceway, insulated, and non-insulated cable systems, all lighting systems, and all emergency systems.
It is expected you will document work electronically.
- Medium, and low voltage cable pulling, and splicing for lead jacketed and EPR cables. Designated personnel required to climb high structures for servicing lighting.
- Operate forklift, bobcat, backhoe, bucket truck, cable trailer, cable pulling devices, and assorted personnel lifts. Drive UT vehicle.
Maintains acceptable driving record as required by UT Systems Policy UTS157.
Update record drawings and create switching orders. Review and evaluate design proposals and specifications for feasibility.
Effectively communicate verbally and electronically.
- Participate in the on-call program and working after-hours.
- Perform other related functions as assigned. Experience with standard hand tools, digital volt-ohm meter, high voltage tester, high pot, megohmmeter.
Training certification required within 18 months. Required to wear uniforms and carry University issues cell phone during work and on call hours.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, or GED. Three years experience as a Journeyman level Distribution Electrician, or Licensed Journeyman Electrician. Drivers License.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years experience at maintaining, and modifying switchgear. Three years of lineman experience. Ability to use personal computer for developing drawings and providing written instructions.
Accuracy in developing record drawings, and equipment specifications. Demonstrate ability to work well within a team environment.
Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence.
If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range
$50,448 + depending on qualifications

40 Hour Work Schedule; Tuesday-Friday, 06 : 30 AM-05 : 00 PM
