The San Francisco Tri-State Property and Casualty practice, comprised of about 50 employees, represents a wide range of expertise, with abundant opportunities to develop and apply actuarial and complementary skills such as data science and geospatial analysis. Our cross-disciplinary team applies advanced actuarial and other analysis techniques and geospatial technology to develop innovative insurance products for traditional and start-up insurers, as well as the associated state regulatory rate filing support. We are thought leaders in climate change, artificial intelligence, telematics, and other leading-edge research. We work on some of today’s most important insurance problems, including modernizing flood insurance and addressing wildfire risk. Project assignments and internal interest groups give all of our staff the opportunity to collaborate and contribute across the practice.

What You Will Do

As a Data Scientist with our practice, you’ll leverage your programing expertise and along with your data science and insurance industry knowledge to deliver high-quality analytical and modeling solutions for our client engagements. You’ll process, visualize, and analyze diverse data sets, from telematics and insurance claims data to catastrophe models and climate variables, using Python, R, and / or SAS. While a majority of your work will focus on traditional property and casualty insurance analytics, you’ll also take part in projects exploring the impacts of climate change and natural catastrophes on other industries and broader economic trends.

Key Responsibilities

• Manipulate, summarize, and validate large datasets for accuracy and consistency using statistical programming languages
• Build risk scores using geospatial, climate, and other contextual data
• Develop predictive models using linear and non-linear methods
• Contribute to ETL processes in support of client engagements, product development, and internal research
• Participate in checking and peer review of the work product of other data scientists and analysts
• Assist peers and project managers in scoping out new projects or opportunities
• Draft clear, professional reports and exhibits for internal and external audiences

Location

This is a remote position, based in the United States. Candidates hired into this role may work onsite in select Milliman office locations, if they prefer (though no relocation assistance will be available). Occasional work-related travel may be required for practice meetings, company events, industry conferences, etc.

Compensation

The overall salary range for this role is $65,200 - $151,440. A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.

For candidates residing in :

$71,720 - $114,620 if overall experience is less than 5 years; and

$78,240 - $125,040 if overall experience is less than 5 years; and

$65,200 - $104,200 if overall experience is less than 5 years; and
