Overview

Incumbents of the MIECHV Home Visiting Teacher position provide parent education, developmental education, and family education regarding family well-being.

Additionally, they provide services in the home and community setting in accordance with specific program guidelines and outcomes.

Incumbents will acquire and work in accordance with specified Early Childhood Certifications relevant to the program. This position reports to the MIECHV Program Coordinator and does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide families with the necessary knowledge and tools to enhance their child’s growth, development, and family well-being.
  • Educates families about parent rights, informs parents of IDEA Part C & IDEA Part B programs, and other Early Childhood Partner and Community Programs.
  • Educate families on community resources and Early Childhood Programs.
  • Provide early screening detection of developmental delays and connect families with appropriate services.
  • Conducts parent interviews, gathering history, concerns, and goals specific to the program, family concerns, and desires.
  • Coordinates and administers evaluations for children or families; facilitates and / or participates in the determination of program eligibility.
  • Provides individual instruction to parents to assist the family in understanding their child’s development or diagnosis and other instructional and developmental needs.
  • Educates parents on early childhood development and positive parenting practices.
  • Provides evidence-based specialized instruction to child and / or parents related to : a) developmentally appropriate transition classroom services for children, b) home and community group instructional services for child and family.
  • Develops strategies to build on family concerns, priorities, and resources.
  • Reviews and monitors child and family files for compliance and completeness; maintains appropriate, complete data.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum two years of working with children between the ages of 0-8 years.
  • Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing an early childhood curriculum.
  • Experience with partnering with parents and / or caregivers regarding child development or learning.
  • Experience with collaborating and engaging in partnering with other early childhood programs and / or community resources.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of infant and child development.
  • Ability to interpret and integrate assessment information needed to develop individualized plans.
  • Ability to communicate with sensitivity and cultural responsiveness.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs designed for families with children / child with and without disabilities.
  • Ability to help guide families in goal setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to team with other staff members.
  • Ability to acquire necessary certification specific to program needs.

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and / or contaminants, but not necessarily from occasional temperature changes.

This position requires moderate physical activity, including the handling of light weight objects up to 20 pounds and / or standing or walking more than four hours per day.

Employees often bend, stoop, kneel, and / or crawl, and often use repetitive hand motions. Incumbents almost constantly listen, hear, and talk.

The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs.

All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
