JOB SUMMARY : Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities.
The Controller will be involved in making presentations to the board regarding financial and audit-related matters and will work closely with St.
Mary’s Home’s (the Home) senior leadership team. The CFO will prepare an annual budget each calendar year and exercise functional responsibility over accounting, payroll, IT, and the purchasing and distribution of supplies (to include supervision of the individuals in the afore-mentioned departments).
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Prepares and maintains an annual budget. Coordinates the annual budget process and tracks actual performance against the annual budgets.
Provides regular feedback and direction to senior staff, and department managers regarding budgetary status.
- Must have knowledge of, and the ability to keep the Home in compliance with Federal / State regulations, and required annual audits.
- Regularly files cost reports.
- Works with the audit firm that prepares and submits Form 990 in accordance with OMB Circular A-133, GAAP, and other applicable regulatory standards and state filings.
- Provides counsel and supports the CEO as well as the Board of Trustees, including the Executive and Finance Committees on all financial, budget and audit matters.
- Develops, documents, and implements an internal control system that continuously monitors critical areas of financial control, identifies problems and implements new procedures.
- Processes or supervises the processing of all accounts payable and receivable transactions, billings and cash receipts.
- Reviews daily cash schedule and assists with cash flow forecasting.
- Oversees monthly bank account reconciliations and general ledger account analyses and reconciliations.
- Oversees the processing of bi-weekly payroll and the maintenance of payroll records.
- Prepares and disseminates monthly financial statements for the Home and the Foundation.
- Manages all insurance plans and policies.
- Functions as a liaison with investment manager and Foundation Board regarding the investments of the Foundation’s funds.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

- Must possess a strong understanding of finance and accounting practices.
- Mastery of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), internal controls and financial reporting.

- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with a diverse population.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic and financial aptitude.
- Must possess essential computer skills and expert software knowledge of Adobe, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook; experience with Microsoft Great Plains (HR, Payroll and accounting system) and KRONOS timekeeping system preferred.
- Must possess proficiency in clearly communicating information about finances and accounting issues to non-accountants and individuals with varying levels of financial expertise.
- Significant experience with allocations of shared costs preferred; familiarity with US Government Medicaid negotiated indirect rates and methodologies a plus.
- Must have familiarity with specialized nonprofit industry accounting practices, reporting requirements and procedures.
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for variable lengths of time.
- Must wear approved attire for this position (refer to dress code policy) and wear company-issued ID badge at all times.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :
- Master's degree from an accredited university in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration required. (Proof of degree required.)
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive professional accounting experience is required.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- Experience working for a nonprofit or healthcare organization strongly preferred.
