Assistant Director, Annual Giving and Alumni
Reporting to the Senior Director, Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director, Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement (Assistant Director) is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive Annual Giving program including direct mail campaigns, electronic solicitations, Web-based and one-on-one solicitations.

The Assistant Director is responsible for creating a strategic plan to increase alumni engagement and planning and executing alumni engagement events including networking events, regional events, reunions, and Alumni Weekend.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Three (3) years of fundraising experience in higher education institution and / or nonprofit organization specifically focused on annual giving.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Professional attire and presentation is required.
- Attendance at evening, weekend events, and programs required.
- Must be able to travel to local, regional and international events.
- Daily access to a reliable vehicle; obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance acknowledging the vehicle is used for employee’s work purposes.
- Must maintain a clean driving record.
- Demonstrated ability and interest in working with a highly diverse student and employee population.
- Must be motivated, highly organized, and a self-directed individual with excellent interpersonal skills who can effectively multitask and handle a variety of matters independently, with minimal supervision, in a professional, polished, and mature manner with tact, diplomacy, and appropriate judgement.
- Effective time management skills, organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving ability, strong process orientation, project management skills, and flexibility.
Primary Responsibilities (includes but not limited to) :
- Annual Giving and Stewardship
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-channel annual giving program including direct mail, email, social media, web, phone, video, and in-person strategies;
ensure all groups are segmented properly and timelines are met.
- Create and implement a strategy for an annual Giving Day, including oversight of software platform.
- Provide input toward the development of campaign materials, prepare annual solicitations calendar to be coordinated with the development and communications teams.
- Develop and implement strategies to secure first-time donors, engage / re-engage current and lapsed donors, increase the total number of donors each year, raise donor gift levels, and build the donor pipeline.
- Create and implement philanthropy strategies to engage other key groups of the California Western community : faculty / staff / faculty emeriti, students, friends, and other special initiatives.
- Accountable for increasing philanthropy (unrestricted) through a variety of annual funding campaigns with gifts ranging from $1-$10,000.
- Develop and plan programs and strategies to advance annual giving with local and regional law firms, class reunion, and local, regional and international programming.
- Oversee and conduct timely annual donor acknowledgements, including thank you letters, personal visits and telephone calls;
oversee annual giving donor stewardship and recognition program.
Carry a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects (25 50 prospects) capable of giving between $1,000 and $10,000 annually.
Conduct face-to-face visits and solicitation of four and five figure gifts.
- Collaborate with other members of the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement team to identify and research top annual giving donors and other prospects to create solicitation strategies for building the major gift pipeline of donors.
- Create plans to grow and support the Leadership Annual Giving program by tracking progress with key metrics. Create and implement an Annual Giving Leadership Giving Program, including a recognition society.
Assist with volunteer leadership committees, as assigned.
- Alumni Engagement
- Plan and execute alumni engagement events, including but not limited to, regional events, reunions, networking events, and alumni weekend in collaboration with Events Manager.
- Create, manage, and implement a strategic plan for increasing engagement which may include, but is not limited to, class reunions, local, regional and international alumni clubs, targeted affinity groups, local and regional law firms, direct mail, email, and in-person visits.
- Responsible for annual updates of all donor recognition lists, including donor and judicial walls, signs and placards, and all print publications.
- Oversee and serve as the project manager for special projects including the annual Impact Report and bi-annual online Alumni Newsletter and other projects as assigned by the Senior Director.
- Database Management and Reporting
- Oversee annual giving lists and segmentations to streamline and maximize the impact of annual giving appeals and communications.
- Track donor ratings, capacity, and background information.
- Serve as the point person for implementing and using technology tools for the department (e.g. website editing, Thankview, Constant Contact, and wealth engines) in collaboration with the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement team members.
Compensation :
$67,000.00 - $80,000.00 Annual Salary

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the law school reasonably expects to pay for this position.
The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the law school anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity and budget.
