PRIMARY PURPOSE :

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Leadership is responsible for developing, facilitating, and evaluating a variety of the office’s activities and events in coordination with our student leaders and Director of Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL).

The Assistant Director will coordinate student leadership development which includes leading all hiring, recruitment, and training for student leaders at Otis College.

Additionally, The Assistant Director coordinates student leadership recognition through the planning and execution of the Student Awards Ceremony.

The Assistant Director will also supervise and advise the office's student programming board, Campus Activities Board (CAB).

This position is responsible for leading the club and organization program and process. The Assistant Director facilitates a variety of outreach efforts and special events to grow student involvement and participation on campus.

This position reports directly to the Director of Student Engagement and Leadership.

CORE DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES :

Plan and coordinate seminars, orientations, workshops, and other activities related to student involvement and leadership (i.

e., mid year retreat for student clubs and organizations.)

  • Recruit, hire, and supervise the Campus Activities Board consisting of 7 student chair positions overseeing campus-wide student programs.
  • Manage the programming budget for Campus Activities Board.
  • Chair the Student Leadership Committee, which supports leadership development for students.
  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, and training process for student leadership in collaboration with the Student Leadership Committee.
  • Oversee the Student Leadership Development Program for all students. This includes coordinating the O-Lead workshops for all student leaders and developing new programs to support leadership development across campus.
  • Coordinate the annual Student Awards Ceremony in collaboration with academic departments.
  • Takes leadership on coordinating the registered club and organization program and process : student club and organization registration, student leader and advisor training.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Serve as a liaison between faculty, students, student clubs and organizations, vendors, and / or other College departments on student leadership and student involvement.
  • Assist in the preparation, production, and distribution of informational and / or promotional material.
  • Assists in promoting and publicizing programs through classroom visits, group presentations, informational meetings, and social media.
  • Maintain current information on websites, social media, handbooks, and / or other marketing materials.
  • Maintain records and / or data on events produced. Assist the Director of SEAL around program assessment with a focus on future projection and trends related to student

engagement.

  • Negotiates and contracts with internal sources and outside vendors for a variety of goods and services related to special events planning.
  • Attend, supervise, and advise events / programs / activities to ensure details are handled as planned. Evening and weekend support will be required for various programs and events.
  • Sit on committees related to student development and programming.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS and EDUCATION :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Must be adept at using office software including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be self directed and possess a demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Must be reliable adhering to work schedules and following through on work assignments with minimal oversight. Must be proactive and willing to take initiative when appropriate.
  • Must be flexible in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying perspectives.
  • Ability to work across the various entities in the College.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details; Able to prioritize, multi task and complete assignments on time.
  • Excellent typing skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and public speaking abilities with a natural ability for diplomacy.

PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE :

Master’s degree in student affairs, student development, or related field.

Previous experience working with college students.

Familiarity with basic equipment including multi line phones, fax machines, copying machines, cameras, etc.
