Duties :
- Submit Normal Change tickets for activities in the data center.
- Able to troubleshoot complex link issues with copper and fiber connections. (Ability to utilize fluke meter data to isolate failures)
- Can rack equipment into cabinets without direction or supervision based on cabinet template and historical use case.
- More in-depth understanding of the network architecture. Can explain how the different parts fit together.
- Can manage projects on their own with little supervision from management.
- Can add and create new genomes to DCIM for new equipment. Works to help keep the data accurate and reconciles data issues as they are found.
- Has an in-depth understanding of the power in the facility. Understands redundancy and failover and can make appropriate decisions when lacing power into a rack.
- Monitoring and performing ongoing maintenance on servers and network equipment. As required by customers
- Running hardware diagnostics and replacing failing parts on time. As required by customers.
- Providing Senior Datacenter Technician-level support when needed. Responsibilities include performing power cycles, swapping out failed components, handling storage media, and troubleshooting when needed.
Also, performing cable installations, hardware rack / stack installations, testing, and troubleshooting using standard data center processes.
- Provides first-level support to ensure technical systems' integrity, stability, and efficiency.
- Recommends information technology strategies, and policies.
- Copper / Fiber Optic Testing / Cabling Standards.
- Capable of installing multiple ethernet & fiber optic cables.
- Complete regular walkthroughs of the facility.
- Understand and maintain structured cabling and diverse cable routing.
- Understanding of storage devices.
- Basic understanding of airflow and installation.
Skills :
- Diagnose and swap out defective equipment cables as necessary when troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure problems and perform repairs such as sparing fibers within a trunk.
- Be able to provide local hands and feet on the ground support being guided by others remotely diagnosing LAN and SAN-related problems and during equipment installations and break fix-related activities.
- Be able to perform minimal configuration of the OS required to hand over for remote support, such as remote hands, login, etc.
- Incident response and vendor management for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, break / fix, and retirement of physical infrastructure on site.
- Provide 3rd-level physical hardware support for problems escalated by operations.
- Arranging security clearance / access for site visits, visitors, and third-party vendors.
- At least 3-5 years experience in all phases of infrastructure network management or its equivalent in education and work experience.
- 3 + years prior experience with a large enterprise network and SAN, preferably in the healthcare sector.
- Knowledge of layer-2 / 3 network designs, protocols, and exposure to SAN fiber channel.
- Knowledge of the configuration and support of vendor equipment such as Cisco, Juniper F5, Riverbed, and Aruba
- Cisco CCNA or CompTIA Network+ / A+ certifications a plus.
- Knowledge of packet capture tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump.
- Basic understanding of Python programming language.
- 3+ years of relevant experience with the principles of data center operations (day to daycare and feeding of the servers, network, and storage, such as power supply, fan, and other component replacements)
- Solid understanding of data center cabling principles.
- Linux and Windows basic touch experience preferable.
- Willingness to learn and use the DCIM system to document the data center.
- Strong organization, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members, peers, and vendors.
- Understanding of basic Microsoft Suite applications.
