Ninja Program Lead - Desert Foothills Family YMCA

Operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the Valley of the Sun YMCA, this position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The ninja coach will help teach skills and help students succeed.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• 21 years of age or older
• Current state approved first-aid certification.
• Current CPR certification
• Demonstrated ability to provide childcare.
• Minimum 2 years' experience working with children.
• Knowledge and experience in child watch or babysitting including demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate activities to children, ages 5 years to 11 years.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members, staff, peers, volunteers, and supervisor.
• Ability to effectively communicate information on YMCA programs.
• Knowledge of staff / volunteer supervision and program management preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Lead staff of Ninja coaches and / or family engagement class instructors and manage scheduling.
• Working knowledge in at least one of the following areas : gymnastics, sports, fitness.
• Teach a variety of ninja and family engagement classes in a positive, safe and fun environment.
• Observe, instruct and spot athletes as they perform on the various apparatus (this will include physical contact and lifting, especially with smaller children).
• Develops positive relationships with schools, parents and participants.
• Operates all equipment properly and promptly reports any problems.
• Maintains attendance and other records.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Motivates and leads participants in a variety of special programs.
• Communicates effectively with members, peers, participants, parents, volunteers and supervisor.
• Responds to safety and emergency situations.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Obtains a substitute instructor when needed. Incorporates the mission, philosophy and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
