Duties and Responsibilities
The Registered Dietitian develops, delivers, coordinates and evaluates nutrition services and programs as part of the school-based health center ( SBHC ) operated by Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ) at Proviso East High School.
II. Position Responsibilities :

- 25% Yes Assessment of nutrition status, development of a nutrition care plan (including nutritional diagnosis) and implementing medical nutrition therapy ( MNT ) including nutrition education and counseling for a variety of conditions related to child and adolescent health (particularly weight management, dyslipidemia, pregnancy, and others) at the Proviso East SBHC and other community sites.
- 40% Yes Development and provision of group education sessions on child and adolescent health offered through the LUC SBHC including (but not limited to) Lunch Bunch, presentations to athletic teams, academic classes, stakeholder groups (parents, teachers, administrators, etc.
health fairs, weight management group, and other special health education groups (such as pregnant teens, etc.).
- 5% Yes Interdisciplinary collaboration with staff of the SBHC and school teachers / administrator in the promotion and implementation of other initiatives related to child and adolescent health (such as the Maywood Health task force, PEP grant, outreach to elementary schools, Illinois Coalition for School Based Health Centers etc).
- 10% Yes Provides supervision, direction and mentoring for dietetic interns, undergraduate nursing students and others as assigned.

- 5% Yes Enhances resources for program delivery including development of new educational materials, identification and procurement of available resources, independently and as assigned by supervisor.

Work consists of various duties involving different processes and methods. Factors to be considered differ with each assignment, and elements of the work must be identified and analyzed to determine appropriate action.
Ex. Interaction with PEHS students, SBHC office manager, NPs, SW, MDs, LUC students, school teachers, etc.). Provision of services from individual to groups, complex medical conditions to health promotion and disease prevention issues.

Performs recurring tasks independently, assesses situation and initiates new assignments consistent with mission of the SBHC and professional dietetic practice and personal experience.

Demonstrates the skills and knowledge necessary to provide appropriate care to the patient populations served by the specific unit to which the incumbent is assigned.
Must be able to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to population specific needs.
The primary patient population for the SBHC is ethnically diverse adolescents and their families.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development for the appropriate age span of the SBHC's clients. The age span of the unit's patients is adolescence.
However this employee should also be knowledgeable and current in dietetic practice related to pregnancy, infancy and child health.

Minimum Education :
Required : Bachelors Degree
Specify Degree(s ) : must have completed a dietetic internship by an- ACEND accredited program
Residency : N / A
Licensure / Certifications :
Required : Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation;
or expected within 3 months of hire
Preferred : Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred.

This is a skilled job requiring high level of adaptability and interpersonal skills; especially ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of levels of personnel and clients including minority adolescents, SBHC health care team, LUC students, and PEHS teachers in a respectful and professional manner.

External Contacts :
High school students and their families, teachers, administrators, athletic coaches, community members and other stakeholder groups including advisory groups, etc.
Minimum Education and / or Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in nutrition / dietetics, completion of a clinical internship approved by American Dietetic Association and one-two years of professional experience.
Master's degree is preferred.
