Overview
The main focus of the engineer is to create documentation for the field that accurately describes our scope of work and the methodology to complete this work.
Quality will be maintained with department standards that will be disseminated to all employees and a baseline for all engineering work.
Completing work within estimates will require coordination with the project managers, sales team and software technicians.
Quality will be maintained in adherence to department standards and it is the responsibility of the Controls Engineer to know, understand, and apply these standards to every deliverable directly assigned by the Engineering Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of the Operations Manager to provide assistance in the completion of Engineering deliverables
- Attend sales turnovers for projects
- Collect pre submittal questions from project supervisor and software manager
- Review pre submittal questions, issue RFIs, create control drawings and create bill of material
- Collect documentation into a submittal package and schedule a review meeting with the operations manager and project manager
- Review and revise documentation as required to obtain approved submittals with customer
- Schedule and conduct field turnover meeting. In the turnover meeting distribute project documentation and review with project manager
- Collect project schedule from project manager and coordinate material need dates
- Order material and collect into project sub systems (i.e. hot water plant, air handler unit 1, make up air unit.)
- Collect communication path documentation from project supervisor.
- Label and address controllers to work with the selected communication paths.
- Walk job with project manager at 40% completion, revise drawings and sequence of operations
- Schedule software turnover meeting with the software manager and project manager.
- Collect as built documentation from project manager and foreman. Login (as available) to project and review network architecture, controller addresses, point names and sequence of operations.
Update drawings, bill of material and material documentation. Get warranty date from project manager and create warranty letter for project manager to sign.

- Implement rigorous quality standards for all aspects of the engineering delivery from initial concept to final commissioning and handover
- Take direction from the Operations Manager and complete tasks in an expedient and workmanlike manner
interdepartmental coordination
- Coordinate schedule and cost to complete with project manager
- Coordinate variance from estimated cost with project manager
- Coordinate turnover to field and software
- Coordinate with software team on system architectures, controller selection, communication protocols, third party integrations, graphics and other software related questions.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Strong planning and organization skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and strong interpersonal skills
- Two or more years' experience working within the Building Automation industry or related technical field
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC and BAS / DDC systems and equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand design and construction documents
- Ability to work in a variety of circumstances (both in the office and the field) including but not limited to : climbing ladders / scaffolds / high lift equipment, working on active construction sites
- Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations
Preferred Skills
- Ten or more years of engineering building-related systems or services
- Bachelors degree in engineering, or a related technical field
- Registered Professional Engineer
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and strong interpersonal skills
- Strong planning and organization skills
- Able to communicate with customers at all levels and capable of managing their expectations
- Solid working knowledge of common business computer applications (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
- Strong work ethic and initiative to learn and grow within the company
The Controls Engineer will report to the Operations Manager and provide regular updates on project status and personal goals.
Salary - $80K - $115K DOE
