This position will be a member of the NCAA's Office of Legal Affairs, providing legal guidance and support across the national office.

The role will include being the day-to-day legal liaison to several national office departments and providing counsel on a wide range of legal matters.

The ideal candidate has experience as in-house counsel or outside counsel working on matters for clients in fields of higher education, sports, or other regulated industry. Job Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel to various departments within the national office on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, divisional governance, regulatory compliance, business performance, health and well-being initiatives, championships, and intellectual property.
  • Review, draft, negotiate and manage contracts, and related legal documents, to protect the Association's interests and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide counsel to protect and manage the Association's intellectual property.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant laws and regulations affecting the Association's operations and services, as well as identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Legal advisor for new business initiatives of the Association
  • Legal advisor for the formation of policy and processes related to specified championship competition and operations.
  • Oversight of outside legal counsel for litigation and other disputes involving business, championship, and IP portfolio.
  • Legal counsel to NCAA divisional regulatory groups in development and enforcement of policies and processes
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Must have a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school.
  • A minimum of eight years as a lawyer actively practicing law.
  • A minimum of five years as in-house counsel and / or as outside counsel specifically working on matters for clients in fields of higher education, sports, or other regulated industry.
  • Active bar admission in at least one state with eligibility to be recognized for Indiana business counsel licensure.
  • Experience in a wide variety of legal areas.
  • Estimated Travel Required
  • This position will be based out of the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current work environment is hybrid; 3 days in the office and 2 days are remote.
