Respiratory Clinical Educator- Rotating Shift

Description

  • Competently performs all functions of a Respiratory Therapist including all adult care areas, PICU, and NICU.
  • Facilitates and mentors all Respiratory Care operations according to policy, procedure, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews and revises orientation and competency tools as needed
  • Coordinates the orientation process for all new respiratory employees including welcome e-mails, schedule training areas, and preceptors, routine check-ins, etc.

Monitors and oversees competency tool completions.

  • Creates, reviews revises and implements policies and procedures as needed.
  • May be assigned to participate and / or lead quality projects that arise and require support.
  • Flexible hours : mainly Monday through Friday however it may be necessary to work weekends and nightshift when education and training are required.
  • Provides shift / education meeting attendance outside of respiratory care and creates educational tools as requested, especially for our nursing partners.
  • Implements and educates special clinical procedures involving highly technical equipment management requiring understanding and functional knowledge of complex physiologic processes and interpretation of data.
  • Consults with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to determine needs in order to promote consistent quality and delivery of patient care.
  • Provides continual technical / clinical direction and guidance to staff to ensure standards of high quality are achieved and maintained in the delivery of patient care and compliance with policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Champions new and high alert initiatives and helps in service line or hospital-wide committees / task forces.
  • May be asked to complete additional tasks as deemed necessary by Respiratory Manager and / or Director.

  • Monitors and documents the patient’s response to therapeutic interventions and progress toward outcomes.
  • Demonstrates a patient-first and cost-effective approach to patient care in terms of equipment, staff, supplies, and all other resources.
  • Assures that quality improvement activities are completed.
  • Assesses and intervenes in critical situations involving patients, staff, and visitors and consults with manager or administrator for guidance as needed
  • Promotes a culture of safety and encourages unusual occurrence reporting

  • Establishes relationships with healthcare partners across the organization.

III. Education

  • Assesses and communicates staff development needs and makes plan to address
  • Serves as a resource for staff.

IV. Research

  • Assures research activities are completed for an assigned shift.
  • Participates in research activities.

Qualifications

Required :

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)- National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)- Illinois Department of Professional Regulation
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)- American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support- American Heart Association (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALs) American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) American Academy of Pediatrics
  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of Critical Care Experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in PICU and Level III NICU
  • Experience with creation and delivery of power point presentations

Preferred :

  • Master’s Degree in healthcare related field
  • Neonatal / Pediatric Specialist (NPS)- National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) National Board for Respiratory Care
