Summary :

Patient Access Representatives facilitate a welcome andeasy access to the facility and are responsible for establishing anencounter for any patient who meets the guidelines for hospitalservice.

Patient Access staff ensures that all data entry isaccurate including demographic and financial information for eachaccount.

Patient Access has numerous procedural requirementsincluding data elements, insurance verification, authorization forservices, and collections for all patient portions including priorbalances.

Patient Access staff is responsible for the successfulfinancial outcome of all patient services. Patient Access isresponsible for ensuring the hospital maintains compliance withFederal regulations, JCAHO, and Department of Health and Hospitalcompliance standards.

Patient Access communicates directly withpatients and families, physicians, nurses, insurance companies andthird party payers.

This position requires professional appearance,and behavior, good communication skills and effectiveorganizational skills.

Patient Access representatives requiredependability, flexibility, and teamwork.

Responsibilities :

  • Accurately inputs all required data elements forscheduling and registration, including patient demographic,financial information, guarantor information, and relevant notesassociated with the encounter.
  • Verifies insuranceeligibility and obtains necessary authorizations for servicesrendered.
  • Calculates and collects the estimatedpatient portion based on benefits and contract reimbursement aswell as prior balances.
  • Performs financial assessmentfor appropriate program assistance.
  • Communicates thepurpose of and obtains patient / legal guardian signatures on allnecessary hospital documents.
  • Represents the PatientAccess department in a professional, courteous manner at ALLtimes.
  • Required to assist the hospital in the eventof an internal or external disaster.
  • Supports theflexible needs of the department to accommodate patient volume inall areas of the hospital. This may require assignment to anotherarea of the department, and shift change.
  • Supportsthe department in achieving established performance targets.
  • Completes required training as needed and asmandated.
  • Maintains the team discipline of followingall elements of established standard processes
  • Workswith HPWT (High Performance Work Teams) to maintain an efficient,clean, and orderly workplace using 5S principles and practices onceimplemented in the work unit.
  • Coordinates,communicates, and assists in monitoring work flow and work tasksnecessary to manage fluctuating volumes.
  • Providesfeedback to the team to help identify educational needs, andmediation needs by reporting IPOs (issues, problems, andopportunities).
  • Demonstrates competence to performassigned responsibilities is a manner that meets thepopulation-specific and developmental needs of the members servedby the department.
  • Appropriately adapts assignedassessment, treatment, and / or service methods to accommodate theunique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and otherdevelopmental needs of each member served.
  • Takespersonal responsibility to ensure compliance with all policies,procedures and standards as promulgated by state and federalagencies, the hospital, and other regulatory entities.
  • Performs all duties in a manner that protects the confidentialityof patients and does not solicit or disclose any confidentialinformation unless it is necessary in the performance of assignedjob duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

A. Education / Skills

High School Diploma or equivalent years of experiencerequired.

B.Experience

1 3 years ofexperience preferred.

C.Licenses, Registrations, orCertifications
