Senior Vice President, Treasury Risk

We're seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Vice President, Treasury Risk to join our Capital Oversight team.

This role is located in New York City and Boston, MA in a Hybrid work environment.

About the team :

The Capital Management Oversight function is the second line of defence responsible for the global oversight of the management of capital and related balance sheet strategy at BNY.

The team monitors Treasury's management activities relating to the adequacy, planning, and deployment of capital across the Firm.

The function reviews important capital metrics such as the Leverage Ratio, Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) Capital Ratio, Supplementary Leverage Ratio (SLR), and measures of Total Loss Absorbing Capacity (TLAC).

Underlying exposure measures including client deposits and risk-weighted assets (RWA) are also reviewed and monitored. Oversight activities also include engagement in internal and external capital actions, participation in stress testing exercises such as CCAR and DFAST, and involvement in assessments of capital adequacy such as ICAAP, ICARA, and RCEN.

Key counterparts include capital management teams within Treasury and Finance at the corporate level and across the world.

Asset-Liability Management, liquidity, and capital knowledge is critical to understanding balance sheet constraints and trade-offs, as well as the regulatory and strategic constraints facing the Firm.

The Balance Sheet and Capital Management Oversight team works very actively with the other Treasury Risk functions, and within Risk & Compliance functions relating to the management of risks to capital including Traded Market Risk, Credit Risk, and Model Risk, as well as Enterprise Risk Management and regional second line of defence stakeholders.

As BNY Mellon is a Global Systemically Important Bank (GSIB), the regulatory requirements and expectations for the Treasury and Treasury Risk are at the highest standard in the country.

In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways :

  • Identifying all relevant Basel capital rules applicable to each product being reviewed
  • Interpreting regulatory capital rules and translate them into operational terms which could be used to assess and evaluate rule implementation for both existing interpretations and new transactions and products
  • Perform regulatory scan to determine applicable capital regulations across jurisdictions
  • Review and validation of RWA capital rules, calculation and reporting for products being reviewed
  • Preparing review summaries for each rule covering rule interpretation and implementation
  • Hold review meetings with Financial Risk Reporting to discuss issues found in the review and get agreement on the issues find and remedial actions required
  • Present issues to senior regulatory capital risk committees
  • Work with first line partners to finalize remediation plans to address issues identified and track progress
  • Help develop and maintain second line Basel Review & Challenge policies and procedures

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following :

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Very strong analytical skills to analyse complex rules and products and create a review approach to ensure accurate rule interpretations and implementation
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to appropriately distil analysis and content for senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Expertise in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work in unstructured environment, develop and implement risk frameworks and processes from scratch.
  • Background in math, statistics, finance, accounting, economics, risk management, operations research, engineering, or a similar field is preferred.
  • CFA or FRM certification is a plus.
  • 8+ years of total experience with a minimum of 3-4 yrs of experience in Basel capital rule implementation or review role in a large bank is strongly preferred.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $113,000 and $166,000 per year at the commencement of employment.

However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.

This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department / team performance, and market factors.
