The University of Miami’s Autism Spectrum Assessment Clinic (UM ASAC), an affiliated clinic of the University of Miami’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM CARD), has an open psychologist position available within the Department of Psychology .

The position is a full-time (1.0 FTE), staff psychologist position. The psychologist will conduct comprehensive psychological services (assessment, intervention, consultation) for clients at ASAC / CARD offices throughout Miami-Dade County.

The psychologist will provide clinical supervision to doctoral student trainees, as well as consultation to CARD specialists and other community professionals.

In addition, the Department of Psychology offers an extensive network for clinical research / scholarly collaborations. Many of the staff and faculty at ASAC and CARD are actively engaged in UM and national collaborations.

There is also the opportunity for program development involving outpatient services and consultation.

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree (Psy.D. or Ph.D.) in psychology, be licensed (or license eligible) to practice psychology in Florida, possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate well with others and have knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

Experience testing children and implementing evidenced-based assessment for ASD, including the ADOS-2 is necessary. Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) for speaking and writing is strongly preferred in order to serve the client population of our agency.

ASAC is a specialty clinic within the University of Miami’s Department of Psychology that provides comprehensive diagnostic, psychological, psycho-educational, and multidisciplinary evaluations to individuals with or suspected of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across the lifespan (12 months through adulthood).

Most clients seen are preschool or school-aged children who are clinically complex and often present with co-occurring difficulties (e.

g., ADHD, learning disorder, language disorder, mood and / or anxiety disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, etc.). Additionally, ASAC offers behavioral parent training (e.

g., PCIT, RUBI) to children with ASD and caregivers. Services are provided via telehealth and / or in-person appointments.

Our team is comprised of monolingual and bilingual licensed psychologists and a bilingual speech-language pathologist, as well as clinical psychology doctoral students, pediatric psychology interns, and post-doctoral associates.

Located in Miami, Florida, ASAC serves individuals of various cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

In pursuing its mission to acquire, advance and disseminate knowledge within the Psychological and Biobehavioral Sciences, the Department of Psychology balances several academic endeavors including : teaching (e.

g., undergraduate, graduate, faculty development, professional training), research (e.g., basic, applied), work with diverse populations, and community service.

The Department has extensive research and service programs throughout the culturally diverse Miami area directed by its 50+ faculty and 146 administrative and research staff members.

The research programs rank among the top nationally for National Institute of Health funding in psychology departments. Since 1966, the graduate program in clinical psychology has received continuous accreditation by the American Psychological Association (APA) and is consistently ranked among the best clinical programs in the country.

The Department's Behavioral Medicine Research Center is a highly successful interdisciplinary entity that facilitates collaborative research in medical settings.

Conduct Psychological Services

  • Administer, score and interpret psychological, developmental, psycho-educational and autism-specific assessments / evaluations.
  • Identify developmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, using information obtained from interviews, tests, records, and reference materials.
  • Coordinate with members of a multidisciplinary evaluation team.
  • Develop recommendations for therapeutic and educational treatment plans.
  • Write integrated reports, detailing test results, clinical impressions and treatment recommendations.
  • Discuss evaluation results and treatment recommendations with clients and / or caregivers.
  • Provide therapeutic services to individuals with autism spectrum disorder and related disabilities and / or their caregivers
  • Participate in case conferences and staff meetings.
  • Perform timely and complete documentation of services provided, consistent with State regulations and professional standards.
  • Maintain privacy of clients; always maintain a professional demeanor with clients, students and employees.
  • Commute and provide services at various CARD / ASAC offices, as needed, throughout Miami-Dade County.

Provide Consultation and Clinical Supervision

  • Provide clinical supervision to doctoral student trainees (practicum students, interns, post-doctoral fellows) in their conduct of psychological evaluations.
  • Complete bi-annual evaluations of student performance across various professional metrics.
  • Provide clinical consultation and technical assistance to agencies who serve individuals with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities.
  • Develop and present training seminars to parents and professionals on issues related to autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities.
  • Participate in CARD / ASAC, Department of Psychology, and / or university events.
  • Commute and provide services at various locations throughout Miami-Dade County, including school and community settings.

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology
  • Completed an accredited psychology program with the American Psychological Association
  • Licensed or license-eligible to practice in the State of Florida by the appointment start date
  • Minimum two years of relevant work experience
  • Skilled in the assessment of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders using evidence-based practices and diagnostic tools (e.g., ADOS-2)
  • Experience with children
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate and willing to go above and beyond to provide treatments that meet individual’s and families’ unique needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of health care professionals and with parents / family members
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong teamwork ethic and positive, flexible attitude

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bilingual English-Spanish
  • Possess prior clinical experience in a teaching institution or service setting
  • Experience as a clinical supervisor
