Develops and teaches concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. May require teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and online during the day, evening, and / or weekend.
Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom / laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education / training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Educational requirements :
Must have at least one (1) of the following :
- Associate's Degree or higher in Arboriculture or related field such as :
- Agriculture Economics
- Arboricultural, Forestry
- Woody Ornamental Horticulture
- Pomology, Agronomy (Turf Emphasis), Sports Turf, Horticulture Turf
- Environmental Horticulture, Environmental Studies
- Soil Science
- Horticulture Production, Horticulture Science, Horticulture Education & Therapy, Horticulture Communication, Horticulture Biological Studies, Horticulture Chemistry, Horticulture Education, Horticulture Business
- Landscape Design, Landscape Horticulture, Landscape Contracting, Landscape Management
- Biogeography
- Plant Breeding Genetics, Plant Growth, Plant Pathology
- Botany, Architecture
- Completion with proof of Registered Arborist Apprenticeship
Occupational experience :
Must have four years (8,000 hours) of work experience in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Agriculture Economics, Plant Pathology, Arboricultural, Forestry, Horticulture Education, Landscape Contracting, Sports Turf, Woody Ornamental Horticulture, Pomology, Agronomy (Turf Emphasis), Environmental Horticulture, Environmental Studies, Horticulture Turf, Soil Science, Horticulture Production, Landscape Design, Horticulture Communication, Horticulture Biological Studies, Horticulture Chemistry, Horticulture Business, Plant Breeding Genetics, Plant Growth, Horticulture Science, Horticulture Education & Therapy, Landscape Management, Graphic Design, Botany, or Architecture.
In addition to the above requirement, one of the following must be met :
- At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the last 5 years OR;
- At least two years of teaching in one or more of the areas listed above at the postsecondary level within the last five years.
Required Licensure :
- Pesticide Application Certified by the WDATCP is required.
- Certified Arborist, ISA, International Society of Arboriculture is required.
Preferred Licensure :
- ISA Board Certified Master Arborist is preferred
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License is preferred
