Job Summary :

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fire Protection Engineer with proficiency in AutoCAD. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing fire protection systems to ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire codes and regulations.

This role requires a strong technical background in fire protection engineering, with a focus on utilizing AutoCAD for the preparation of design drawings and schematics.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Design and Drafting : Develop detailed fire protection system designs, including fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and smoke control systems, using AutoCAD.
  • Code Compliance : Ensure all designs comply with applicable fire codes, standards, and regulations such as NFPA, IBC, and local building codes.
  • System Analysis : Perform hydraulic calculations, fire risk assessments, and egress analysis to determine appropriate fire protection solutions.
  • Project Management : Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to integrate fire protection systems into overall building designs.
  • Plan Review and Approval : Prepare and submit fire protection plans for review and approval by local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ).
  • Field Inspections : Conduct site visits to review installation and ensure that fire protection systems are installed according to approved designs and specifications.
  • Technical Support : Provide technical support and guidance to construction teams during the installation and commissioning of fire protection systems.
  • Documentation : Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including design calculations, system specifications, and as-built drawings.
  • Continuous Improvement : Stay informed on the latest fire protection technologies, codes, and industry best practices.

Requirements and Preferred Experience :

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fire protection engineering, with a strong focus on design and drafting using AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and fire protection principles.
  • Professional presentation skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, clients, and staff.
  • Ability to work under pressure and perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with daily activities.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strategic and critical thinking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills, both internally and externally.
  • Self-directed professional with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle stress and remain productive.
  • Maintain professional, timely communication with customers.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, excellent listener and completes tasks independently and efficiently and with limited direction.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Calendar.
  • Ability to learn all software systems used throughout the company.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team on special, nonrecurring, and / or ongoing projects.

Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) or PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred. NICET certification in fire protection is a plus.

Additional Requirements :

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Must pass drug screen, criminal background check and driver’s license check.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
