Essential Duties :
- Administer medications in accordance with accepted practices presented in the Virginia Board of Nursing Medication Aide Regulations.
- Document in Medication Administration Record (MAR) all medications administered.
- Check and record vital signs, weights and blood sugars as ordered and record.
- Successfully pass a medication administration observation at least annually.
- Provide for or assist patients with activities of daily living as needed, including bathe / shower according to schedule, oral care, toileting, dressing, etc.
- Assist residents with transfers and ambulation as directed and ordered by the physician using proper body mechanics.
Use of facility gait belts and mechanical devices is required.
Assist other staff with heavy lifting, transferring, and use of proper equipment according to policy and physicians’ orders.
Qualifications :
- High school graduate / GED; Must be 18 years or older
- Current registration as a Medication Aide and Nurse Aide in good standing issued by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including customer service, patience, empathy and compassion
- Good collaboration and teamwork skills
- Fast and adaptive problem-solving abilities
- In-depth understanding of patient care policies and regulations
- Familiarity with symptoms and signs of improvement for a number of medical conditions
- Comfortable working with specific populations of patients, including elderly patients and those with special needs
- Physical strength and stamina
