Responsibilities
Neuro Telemetry at St Joseph Hospital and Medical Center, a part of the esteemed Barrow Neurological Institute, offers a unique learning environment.
Our team, dedicated to caring for complex neurological and neurosurgical patients, including those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, brain tumors, stroke, and other conditions, is a hub of clinical expertise.
With our comprehensive training program and numerous opportunities to participate in unit and housewide teams, Neuro Telemetry is not just a workplace, but a place to thrive both personally and professionally.
As our Neurology Nurse at SJHMC, you’ll see patients with significant neurological conditions such as hemorrhages, aneurysms, strokes, brain and spinal tumors, seizure disorders, and spinal disorders.
You will provide the best care possible while helping them and their families make the best decisions for their care.
You’ll perform neurological and head-to-toe exams, administer medications, monitor intake and output, and closely monitor our patients’ blood pressure.
You’ll also monitor any external ventricular drains, intracranial bolts, or lumbar drains. You’ll work closely with other nurses, physicians, case managers, and a team of dedicated allied health professionals to monitor these patients and offer them the best possible outcome.
Every shift brings its unique challenges, but also opportunities for growth. We handle the most complex cases, from patients with new neurological diseases to brain operations in areas most physicians won’t touch.
While not every outcome may be ideal, your strong passion for neurology and advancing the science will be your driving force.
It can be demanding, but the moments of celebration with patients and their families make it all worthwhile.
Responsibilities :
- Ensure continuity of care by conferring with nurses from the prior shift and doing a neuro exam together before they leave.
- You’ll perform neurological exams and head to toe exams, closely watching for any status changes. Monitor any external ventricular drains, intercranial bolts or lumbar drains.
monitor blood pressure and notify a physician of any neuro status changes, changes in fluid balance, or difficulty maintaining correct blood pressure.
You’ll also administer medications as needed.
Be a compassionate resource for our patients’ families. Many of our patients are incapable of making their own decisions at this time.
Families have questions and provide vital support to our patients.
