Candidates are required to have foster parents / adoptive parent experience
Remote assignment (candidates should within a 1 hour radius to address listed below)
Extensions beyond initial 6 months are likely.
Each mentor is expected to provide up to 15 hours of peer support per week to include participation in virtual and in person recruitment, retention and family events.
Program Assistant : Individual will act as foster parent recruitment champions, providing recruitment a retention support.
Additionally, peer mentors will be matched with newly licensed foster families to provide emotional support and system navigation.
Peer mentors will also help with connecting the family to any needed services, supports and resources available in the community.
Strong skills in communication and content knowledge of the child welfare system / foster care are required. Lived experience as a foster / adoptive parent is required.
A successful Peer Mentor should have :
Successfully navigated the foster parenting experience
Demonstrated the ability to maintain stable placements
Demonstrated the ability to advocate effectively for their children and families
Experience providing informal support to other families
Understand and support the goal of reunification where possible
There is a training program to assist and mentor with foster parents, help with navigating the system.
There could be some travel involved, not reimbursable.
No formal work experience needed.
