Position description

The Department of Plant Sciences offers temporary Lecturer positions in the Plant Sciences. A list of courses that may be available during academic year 2024-2025 is provided below.

Included are area of degree and experience required to effectively teach these courses. Courses may be added or omitted from this list as the year progresses.

APPOINTMENT DATES : Assignments vary according to type of course and percentage of appointment. Service periods are :

Fall Quarter 2024 : September 23 - December 13, 2024

Winter Quarter 2025 : January 3 - March 21, 2025

Spring Quarter 2025 : March 27 - June 12, 2025

RESPONSIBILITIES : Teach one or more undergraduate or graduate courses in PLS, BIT, ENH, IAD, and / or HRT or others as needed .

Candidates may be asked to teach 1or more courses for the year depending on programmatic need and candidate's availability.

QUALIFICATIONS : Required :

Required :

Appropriate professional degree, e.g. doctorate or master's degree (or 30 units of graduate coursework) at time of appointment.

Preferred :

Demonstrated teaching ability; a developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.

GENERAL INFORMATION : Temporary lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions which require professional as well as academic expertise.

Temporary lecturers may be selected to fill teaching needs occasioned by leave of regular faculty or to enhance and compliment the strengths of faculty teaching related courses.

Therefore, in any given year, open positions and requirements for individuals to fill them will vary.

SALARY : Commensurate with experience and course load.

Applicants may also submit reprints or other examples of their scholarly or professional attainments, and teaching evaluations.

Candidates may be asked for further evidence of scholarly or creative work at a later date.

This position is covered by collective bargaining agreement.

A. Master's Degree (or 30 units of graduate coursework) at time of appointment.

B. Demonstrated teaching ability

C. A developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.
