Department Summary

The University of North Texas (UNT) is a Carnegie R1 research university and a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution and Minority-Serving Institution, with a population of over 45,000 students.

Our department has a strong tradition of collaborative and interdisciplinary research that is strongly integrated with the education of undergraduate, Master's, and doctoral students, and has recently revitalized its longstanding Chemistry Education Ph.D. program.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI / MSIs and / or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or / and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The UNT Chemistry Department seeks a full-time, professional track faculty member at the rank of Lecturer to contribute to our General Chemistry and / or Organic Chemistry curricula.

The primary need is in our high-enrollment General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry courses, which have over 1700 students (for General Chemistry) or over 700 students (for Organic Chemistry) enrolled in a typical long semester.

These serve as important gateway courses for students in STEM majors and have a major impact on students’ ability to successfully attain their educational goals.

Opportunities for teaching in the Analytical Chemistry course sequence are also possible. The changing needs of students and the altered educational landscape in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic have greatly increased the importance of innovative and non-traditional approaches to teaching, including active-learning courses and online course delivery.

The new faculty member will play an important role in developing these and other strategies for improving student learning outcomes and student success as our student population becomes ever more diverse and adapts to a changing world.

The new Lecturer will be a full member of the faculty and will have opportunities to participate in departmental committees and other service activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field and should have experience teaching chemistry in classroom and / or online settings.
