Job Summary
The Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is hiring for our Small / Large Animal Versa team. As a Versa, you will have the opportunity work with all of Purdue's specialty departments in both the small animal and large animal hospitals including Anesthesia and Surgery, Primary Care, Emergency / Critical Care, Large Animal Surgery and ICU, and Small Animal Internal Medicine.
Versa Veterinary Technicians are assigned to the area in the hospital of greatest need and through this opportunity will utilize all of their skills and knowledge.
In addition, Versa technicians rotate through Shelter Medicine providing anesthesia and recovery support for spays and neuters to shelter animals in the surrounding area.
What You'll Be Doing :
Lead (S4) Veterinary Technicians provide technical assistance to clinicians, interns, residents, students, and other veterinary technicians in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
They are required to provide various types of clinical services while providing quality patient care. These individuals will be asked to provide demonstration and assistance of both basic and advanced medical procedures to veterinary and veterinary technician students as well as provide information on physiology and disease processes to students and S3 veterinary technicians.
Veterinary Technicians will monitor hospital inventory and supplies and order when necessary. Assignment to other areas of the hospital in need may be required, as well as holiday rotation and possible participation in on-call coverage.
Those in this role are expected to provide medical leadership on the hospital floor through employee flow management, high level patient care, and emergency situation decision making.
What We're Looking For :
Education and Experience :
Required :
- AAS in Veterinary Technology from AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program
- 2 years in a University Veterinary Teaching Hospital or Veterinary Specialty Hospital as a credentialed veterinary technician or 10 years in a veterinary General Practice
- Must become RVT in Indiana within 12 months of hire.
- Able to listen to and follow both verbal and written directions.
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English.
- Must possess knowledge level enough to explain and demonstrate both routine and advanced veterinary medical concepts and procedures.
