Description
The Senior Payroll Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing to include analyzing and auditing of payroll data.
The Senior Payroll Analyst role involves a deep understanding of payroll system, regulations, taxes, and best practices, combined with the ability to manage complex payroll tasks, projects and deadlines.
This position reports to the Payroll Manager.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions :
- Calculate and process complex payrolls for multiple pay groups and varying timelines.
- Prepare payroll journal entries to the G / L and reconcile accounts as requested.
- Respond to requests for reports.
- Look into complex issues and make corrections to taxable, subject, and gross wages, and correct negative wages for W-2’s.
- Analyze and correct social security, Medicare, and additional Medicare mis-match reports.
- Prepare 401k analysis and audits biweekly and monthly for Payroll Manager and process wires accordingly to fund 401k accounts.
- Ensure the accuracy of payroll data including salary adjustments, tax withholdings and deductions.
- Review payroll audit reports including W-2 error report, on a regular basis.
- Prepare quarterly tax reconciliations and resolve variances.
- Lead the registration process for new local and state accounts.
- Review tax compliance updates to discuss with Manager.
- Assist with the review and resolution of federal and / or state tax statements.
- Assist employees with tax elections to ensure they are complete and accurate.
- Assist with requests for special tax calculations for distributions and / or draws.
- Conduct daily tax / settlement reconciliations.
- Serves as point of contact for internal and external payroll-related inquiries.
- Special project and duties as assigned.
Required Skills :
- Strong analytical skills.
- Work well under pressure to maintain strict time schedule and meet deadlines.
- Remain flexible and calm when payroll data is provided late, or when changes are made.
- Ability to work with and respond to a large volume of email traffic sent to payroll department.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Must have excellent attention to detail.
- Communication skills must be well-developed.
- Ability to work independently.
Qualifications & Education :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- FPC or CPP Certification preferred.
- 6+ years of progressive payroll experience.
- Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, payroll best practices and federal and state regulations.
- Workday experience required.
- Experience in a law firm or other professional service firm a plus.
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel (IF statements, VLOOKUP, PivotTables, etc.).
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Moderate or advanced keyboard usage
